I don't understand a thing

Hi guys!
In the expat guide I found a contradiction.
“Citizens from the EEA and the EU can freely travel to the UK with a valid national ID or a valid passeport...” BUT “The United Kingdom is not part of the Schengen area. For instance, if you are travelling to Europe with a Schengen visa, you won't be allowed to travel to the UK unless you hold a valid visa delivered by a British consulate or embassy abroad.”
So, let me understand: as an EU citizen I can freely travel to UK but do I need a visa like Extra-EU people do? Seriously, I don't understand!

It's saying that a Schengen visa is no good for the UK but that is not relevant to you. As an EU citizen you do not need a visa of any kind.
