Moving Furnitue vs. Buying Furniture?

Post new topic

Drrsbald

So, what is the most economical thing to do.........? Move your furniture or buy furniture when you get there?

Thanks........Rick

Your question is too general.  Do you have a lot of stuff?  Expensive stuff?  If "no" to both, buy; if "yes" consider shipping.

How tall are you?  And how stylish do you want to be?

I ask about height because most furniture is built to Ecuadorian sizes and that's between 5 and 5'8" -- so a lot of furniture feels "small" to a hulking 6'2" gringo.

On the other hand -- European standard furniture is available in the major cities.

And you have an additional option going to some of our carpentry pueblos and actually having some of your furniture made to order -- Athualpa is a town near us here on the Santa Elena Peninsula where, if you bring a picture or even sketch what you want with one of the wood masters, yyou can have some amazing work done.

And if you need someone to go along and translate your needs into Spanish, I happen to have someone with a bit of experience in that department, having assited a number of ex-pats in just that endeavor.

Rick we have been here in Cuenca Ecuador for a year. We shipped our furniture.  Fro you to ship from Ark. to Ceunca Ecuador, a 40 container is about $8800 to $9800 a 20 ft a $1,200 less.

To buy cheap furniture and furnishing for a 2 bed room around $8000 to by good furniture and furnishing that will last si about $11,000.

I did some research on this and put it and other info in a 14 page HELPFACTS About moving to Ecuador. If you would like a copy write relocationservicesecuador@gmail.com.

You can get good furniture made here, but it's not cheap.  If you have furniture that is in need of refinishing and/or minor repairs, then you can get it done here at your own pace.  We have had furniture repaired, reupholstered, refinished here.  We had to find someone who really knows his stuff.  He's not cheap, but does an outstanding job. If you need a new Lazyboy - and who doesn't - get a good one there and ship it...just use it a bit so that it looks used.
