It depends where on the island you are.

I wouldn't recommend cycling for going to work if you've got a long distance.

I do cycle almost every week-end in sugar cane fields, and well, that is very good :) (and no danger at all)

I use an app  called runastic mountain bike, if only I could share my maps that would be really nice (for example I've found a nice way to do Grand Bay - Pamplemousse)

A mountain bike is recommended.

Just one thing: cane fields are maybe not recommended at present time because of fire. So be very, very careful and never go alone. But once the cane cut is over, we'll enjoy fantastic views :)
