The International Drivers License translation is intended to overcome the difficulties drivers may have while traveling by car in foreign countries that may have widely varying drivers license requirements.
On September 19, 1949, the United Nations Convention on Road Traffic established the International Driving Permit to allow motorists to travel in foreign countries. Language barriers create difficulties for both motorists and police. This document establishes the right for a person to drive in another country.

An International Driver's License ( international driving licence ) issued by us is a plastic License card that enables you to drive to other countries .
As a security feature to avoid any forgery of INTERNATIONAL DRIVER'S LICENSE, there is a security shield hologram that covers each card, prolongs its life and eliminates any possibilities of counterfeiting.

The International Driving License is valid in more than 150 countries and can only be issued by the American Automobile Association, more commonly referred to as company. The International Driving License is valid for more than one year or so (depends on the year you purchased) from date of issue for foreign driving. The International Driving License contains your name, photograph, and pertinent driver information.

Traffic Police can verify your existing International Driving License through this website to ensure it is legitimate.

UK driving license can be used pretty much anywhere around the world just like any other Western countries driving license!
If you are referring to the link I gave, this site is only to verify an International Driving. License.

One point that you neglected to mention in your postings is that the IDP International Driver's Permit is only valid when accompanied by a valid (national) Driver's Licence. The validity period of an IDP is ONE YEAR.

While the IDP is valid in many countries, this is generally for tourists only. Many nations have a requirement that individuals obtain a DL in that country if they reside more than 180 days, Brazil being one of them. Up to 180 days a motorist can operate a private passenger vehicle with his regular DL accompanied by an IDP. After 180 days in the country the individual must have a Brazilian Carteira Nacional de Hablitação CNH. It is also the same in many of the ratifying nations of the UNCRT

IDP / IDL can be issued from 1 year up to 20 years depending how long is the validity of your existing license. Some primitive countries does not even have expiration on their driving license. But this can only be used when you enter another country for a period of 180 days but some country allows it for 1 year. I used mine in Qatar for a year before I obtain their local license and of course I verified it with the traffic officials before driving around.
IDP / IDL is indeed good for traveling and visiting different countries or temporary use while obtaining a local license.
