Hi Priscilla;

Thanks! I will try now, you had been in Singapore before?

Anyways let me try your option.

Great
Jose

You can try easyroommate.com.sg - despite what they say on the site, you need to get a paid membership to use it effectively, but it's much cheaper than paying a real estate agent!

But please note: If you are coming on a visit visa (SVP) or on any other visa with duration less than 6 months, you are not allowed (by law) to rent residential property. You have to stay in hotels or hostels (or for free with personal friends)!
If this applies to you, do not even try: First, rules are very strict and breaking them can get you into deep trouble, and second, anybody who says he wants to rent a place to you is a criminal and probably only wants to cheat you out of your money!

Priscilla

@ Jose > No, i have never been to Singapore before. In fact, i am a member of the Expat.com team ;)

Hi Priscilla;

No one is answering; which I think I had sent to 100's of people, what! are they sleeping or gone on leave? strange No! or Internet is not effective as we pursue during our needs.

So you are the member means you are from the Admin of Expat.com, based in ?

I did reply before, and I will try to help you further:
- Are you coming on an SVP (social visit or tourist visa)? If yes, then book a cheap hotel for your stay - they start at S$60/night and there are several in Little India, the favourite part of town for your fellow countrymen. (An even cheaper option is a bed in a shared dormitory, which cost S$25-30/night, but I am not sure if you like the lack of privacy and safety this incurs.)
- Are you coming on any kind of long-term visa (over 6 months)? Then you can rent a room in a private flat, which will cost you S$800-1200/month (minimum rental period 6 months). To find one, you should register at the website I linked to above and contact landlords who advertised there. This can take some time, and you should also visit and view the places before you decide, so you should still book a hotel for the initial period (I recommend two weeks) until you can move into your own room.

Good day Beppi;

Thank you so much for your time & the Info you gave I was not aware, that yes this little India will help me! as you see I have Tourist visa for 2 years but exit after every 1 month, until I get job offer & change my visa status.

Now I have to Google little India where it is located, though Taxi people will now but still some info will be more handy.

Any other info I will be grateful to you

Once again Thanks a Million
And God Bless

Jose.

If you want to save some money. You can take a train from airport all the way to Little India station.

Jose12345

Oh Beppi! Great; well said,

For sure I will do that take a train is the best option.

I think you know complete PRO services of Singapore.
Can I ask you something more pls.

Do you know the laws in Singapore, as I have worked in Real Estate & would like to continue in Singapore, is it the seats are for only locals or PR? as I am very quick & analytic, I virtually get the 6th senses result in me as what the buyer or tenant is looking for before meeting & I close the deal.
I applied in many Real estate in Singapore and no one has replied till date, yes I applied is all big companies.
Any tips you can advise on me pls?

Thanking you in anticipation
Jose

I have never heard of a 2-year tourist visa and don't think it exists. If you have to leave the country every month and return soon, it will look suspicious and you will be questioned after two or three times and subsequently not admitted any more.
Real estate is not a locals-only profession by rule, but foreigners could never understand the market situation as well and also won't be trusted by the locals. Furthermore, most property agents are freelancers, which is something you cannot do. The few fixed-employment jobs in the industry can (again by law) only be filled by a foreigner if there are no similarly skilled locals. This will probably never happen! Therefore I don't think you will be successful in this field.
But you are welcome to contact the Council of Estate Agents (CEA), the governing trade association where you also would have to get a license, for more information.

beppi

I might add that property agents in Singapore have a well-deserved reputation for dubious serviice and less-than-honest business practises. Not something a reasonablel person would want to get involved in!

Jose12345

Hi Beppi;

I have got it, they just off late started, I think September 2014 E- visa;
Yah but Beppi i can go for RES program! but that also has to be RP holder or Local

If you see there are lot of adds for Real Estate Brokers, initially I can stick in office as an admin & side by side connect
to Sales, you see I am Land specialist, I have set here and I found plots in Spain & Brazil, but there is no serious buyer
I have given that property to local agent & he maintains my status too.

With respect do you stay in Singapore?
Can you help me in getting job there in Sales / Finish or unfinish products / Night Audits in Hotels / Ass. Night Manager. Though I have been as a manager, since it is new country I would rather lower my profile to get resident status correct!

Jose

beppi

I have never heard about a "RES program". Could you give me more information?
According to the ICA (Singapore immigration) webpage the standard 30-days (extendable to 89 days) SVP is still the only visa for short-term visitors without job, family, school in Singapore.

Sorry, I cannot help you to find a job, but looking at your diverse list of professions I need to say this:
You only have a chance of getting a job (and work visa) in Singapore in a field where you have the necessary education (usually a recognised university degree is required), applicable work experience (minimum 3 years) AND you have skills that are rare and in demand in Singapore.
I don't see that in any of the fields you mention.

Jose12345

RES is Real Estate Sales person certificate

Work Visa is fine for me

I am Graduate In Bachelors of com. In India - Bombay

With respect and not a commitment from you, your advise if you can share, what is your gut-feel opinion
which job should I pick up as my age is 49 years.

Jose

beppi

You should first check whether your degree and university is recognised by MoM - many Indian ones are not.
If not, you basically have no chance to work in Singapore (unless you get another, recognised degree first).
Your age works against you, both in the job market and regarding the visa. You will probably not become PR any more (unless you marry a local).

RES is probably the property agent license issued by CEA, which I mentioned before. Since most agents are self-employed freelancers, this is not a (legal) option for you.
I assume then that you're coming on a normal 30-days SVP. Do NOT leave the country and come back after a short time, as this will raise suspicions and might get you into trouble after two/three times. Instead, go to ICA and apply for an extension to 89 days - and after that leave the country for three months minimum.

Jose12345

But I have already paid the non refundable expenses of ticket & flying tomorrow
Can't I do it from there ICA after or before thirty days ends.

My Certificate is attested & studied in Bombay University, so what's the problem? just from curiosity

I am becoming nervous, I am coming in the hope of my son to get him further studies in aeronautics

Pls need your better suggestion

PR I am not concerned

beppi

Yes, you need to make a visit to ICA (MRT station Lavender, go early in the morning, as queues can be long) and apply for the extension at the counter before your 30 days are over. More than 89 days is not possible, and you have to leave the country for at least the same time before you can get another SVP.
There might or might not be a problem with your degre, that's why you need to check. MoM has its own criteria for recognising overseas degrees, and many Indian universities do not meet MoM's standards. Hopefully yours does!

There is no degree in aeronautics available in Singapore, but both NUS and NTU have Aeronautics as a final year specialisation in their Mechanical Engineering course:

Jose12345

Then How about I get 3 months visa for Malaysia & then hunt there a job & then back in in Singapore

beppi

I guess that's o.k., although of course I can't comment on your job chances in Malaysia.
