I'm thinking of visiting El Salvador with my husband, but I've heard that there are dangerous gangs. How serious of a problem is it? Is it safe for site-seeing, shopping, or using public transportation? Are there specific areas that are particularly dangerous? Thank you for your replies.

I moved there in 1994, before serious gang problem, they do not mess with us gringos, serious consequences if they do, be cool respect great people and country the gangs mainly kill each other some extortion but many now are dealing with , at a different level
