Art and Culture in Egypt

I have a question that pertains to culture. My partner is an artist and paints portraits of people (mostly women). He would like to know if this would pose a problem in Egypt, it being a muslim country and all; also would it be difficult to find women to pose in his studio (modestly of course)?

Well 10 years ago i would've said YES!! most deff but the times that we are in he might be able to find someone for the right amount. Egyptian's have become very open minded over that past decade.  Good Luck!

I would consult with any of the major universities that have an on line presence and art studies on this issue about what is acceptable within Egypt.

As a rule i would say its "un-acceptable to even consider this concept" as you could be placing the individual in harms way do to a need they may have for hard currency.Egypt is a bit more open on the surface in its outward appearance. but under the surface lays many old ideals and customs.an Egyptian girl found posing for this type of portrait by her family could be beaten pretty badly or even killed over this kind of concept that involves any uncovering or showing her body even modestly excluding the money point.Even to be alone with a male inside  behind closed doors could be a very dangerous practice for a girl.

According to situation explained, I think it is not accepted.

thanks for the info...as disturbing as it was...for me if an arab woman agrees to pose for me by sitting on a stool for 2 or 3 hours while i depict her image on canvas, i see nothing wrong with that..as a matter of fact i feel i am making the world a more beautiful place by making art..if she goes home and tells her family and they beat her..then to me her family is wrong for doing that..i'm sorry but that's how i feel on the matter..Ultimately a portrait is just paint on canvas..nothing more to it than that.
i had another question about air quality issues in Cairo..i have heard its bad there and wanted to know if Alexandria would be a better option as fas that is concerned?  thanks.
