CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) has a site that is recommended for newcomers (PR and work permit holders)
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcomers/live/

RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) too has a pretty good site, albeit it will recommend you use their services for your banking needs... However, you might want to shop around first because they have monthly charges for your checking account. But ya, go there for all the other info.

And if you go to this site
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcomers/map/services.asp
it'll lead you to non-for-profit organizations that'll help you out with settling down

Take for example, Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS)
www.isans.ca/
if you select Nova Scotia as your destination from the site above.
