I just accepted an offer in Bahrain. I am an American moving there alone. My only fear is that it will be tough to meet people. Also, I read some places that Skype is banned? If so how do I video chat with my wife and daughter back home? Also I will be living in the Juffair area. I want to get a vehicle too but I am only 22 years old so I think renting is out of the question. Do they have one year leases?

Thanks!

hi markj101,

Skype is not banned in Bahrain, nor any VOIP softwares and regarding the vehicle i  guess renting would be a good option than leasing one. Lot of renting companies in Juffair area.

Here is a post talking more about car renting: https://www.expat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=405875

good luck!

Would be lots of Americans in Juffair as close to the US naval base so you'll just have to walk into any cafe bar restaurant and strike up a conversation.
You'll make friends in no time here if you're socially inclined

Hey,
Juffair is the ideal place to live in. I live in Juffair and absolutely love it. You will have just no problems in making friends. The US Navy Base is situated in Juffair and is home to almost all Americans working on Base.
Hit me up if you have any more questions that I could probably answer :)

thanks for the info... in fact I will be working inside the US Navy base. How much is an average monthly rental car fee in Bahrain? I may have to wait for my car shipment to arrive for about a month or so...

Ocfemjc

Small car around BD200/month

raffinan

About $500/month...Wow! Thanks!
