Accommodations in Cuenca

Hello,
What types of houses can one see in Cuenca (e.g., building materials used, type of roof, insulation, plumbing, heating/cooling system, materials used for flooring, etc.)? I do not mean expensive condos in gated communities but the typical mid-range housing.  Many thanks.

Most homes in highlands Ecuador do not use or need sophisticated heating and cooling systems due to the mild weather.  Air conditioners are virtually unknown in mid-range housing.  Space heaters can be used on chilly nights, though I haven't used mine in my Quito condo for months.  The evening weather here is similar to Cuenca, temperature-wise.

Cuenca is a city of hundreds of thousands, so most any type of mid-range flooring could be encountered or installed.

You may wish to google for some pictures of Cuenca home exteriors, or access any such that are already posted on this blog.

Hello,
Thx much! I was wondering about the roof in a mid-range cottage or house. In one country I visited in a rather rural area, there was no insulation and the roof was merely a "canopy" with openings all around so all the insects and bats flew inside and left their droppings all over counter tops. Best wishes.

Just do a good inspection in person before you rent.

And you will be renting, right?

And you will be doing it in person, not on the Internet, right?

Hi, cccmedia,
Yes, definitely will inspect carefully and NOT rely on the internet. I've read it's best to find rentals in situ. Yes, renting. I need to learn more Spanish! Thx for the tip.
