I hope no one takes this wrong.  My question is this.  If u can't make a retirement in the w we st,  why do you think you can do it in a third world country competing against  the local?

I made this post knowing that I am going to retire in the Phillipin6.

rhod,
The main reason single or divorced men come retire to the Philippines is due to the availability of young women, cheaper rentals, alcohol and exotic locations. They dont always pick the right women and pay over the odds for services and goods. If your careful about who you meet and where you go you can have an enjoyable retirement, just remember there plenty of people, that will try to get you to spend your hard earned retirement money. So be cautious.

Have to love technology!  I made that post while sipping a cocktail in a Mexican restaurant in Sacramento,  California.   Already a reply from someone a long ways away.  Your answer makes sense but  I think some "want to be expats" are fooling themselves.

Also, I don't get the obsession with younger women.  I dated a girl 20 years younger than me and broke it off because there wasn't anything to talk about.  Out life experience was too different.

True but for some men

its like being a teenager again, male menopause or it a sweet shop, but yes your right lifetime experiences the ability to connect  all important.

I am confused about your question. Are you asking about how come you can retire in the Philippines when you can't even retire in the US? Or are you asking about how to make a living in the Philippines considering local competitors? Or some other question about retirement and making a living and competing with locals?

I think your Question is not about retirement.....
