Hello everybody,

Dealing with unexpected situations abroad can be a very difficult matter. In order to better help expats and soon-to-be expats in Colombia face such tricky situations, we invite you to share your advice and experience.

What are the key emergency numbers you should know by heart?

In the event of a legal problem, an accident, a natural disaster, an injury or the death of a close family member, what are the first things to do in Colombia?

What are the things to plan ahead in order to better cope with such unexpected situations (registration at the Embassy, transport, medical, comprehensive insurance for instance)?

If you have gone through such experiences in Colombia, do not hesitate to share your story.

Thank you in advance!

Priscilla

Learn your blood type by heart, we don't have expensive automated health archive programs, so they don't know shit about you. Wear/take a card with your medication on it with you. Allergies, learn them in Spanish! Most of the middle class neighborhoods have a police officer for that region, with a number you can call.

Blood type for permanent residents of Colombia is captured on their cedulas (notation "RH").

There is an app for police assistance in Colombia. You just press the call button and police use your cell location to send out a local policeman to offer assistance.

what is the name of this app?

I just looked on my phone and it's named "Cuadrante Amigo" (which I suppose translates to something like "Nearby Friend").
