Naturalisation and citizenship in Italy

Post new topic

Bhavna

Hello everyone,

What are the requirements for acquiring citizenship in Italy? For example, length of residence, language requirements, employment etc..

What formalities are involved in the process?

What is the policy on dual-citizenship in Italy? Do you have to give up your former nationality?

What are the advantages and benefits of acquiring Italian citizenship, in your opinion?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Hi Bhavna,

I'm Italian citizen trough naturalisation by residence.
For apply for naturalisation , there are two ways:

1) - Naturalization by residence:
      i) Main requirement is it continuous residence for at least 10 years in Italy .
Residence date starts when you've Italian ID card (in Italy even foreigners can request Italian ID      but it is not valid for travel abroad only in Italy)
ii) Have a min income over the last 3 years (that mean you must have a job with legal income and paying tax)
iii) Don't have criminals record either in Italy or in your country of origin or countries you've been stay before coming to Italy
iv) You have to traslate also your criminal record and birth certificate of your native country in Italian and autenticate its by Italian embassy.
  v)  Pay a naturalization fee around 200€ and duty stamp of 16€

Now we can apply only online trough website of your prefecture of residence and you've to wait at least two years if you're lucky of course to have it.

NB: Naturalization by residence is not an asset so you can be denied  without valid reasons even if  you have presented all the belowed documentations.

2-) Naturalization by marriage
i) 2 years if you live in Italy and 3 years if you live abroad after married an Italian citizen. If you've a child with Italian citizen and you're also married, it's 1 years and 1.5 years abroad
Steps ii) , iii) , iv) and v) also

NB: Naturalization by marriage is it an asset, that mean the can't denied citizenship to you if you're married with an Italian citizen and you don't have criminal record.

Hope to have respond to you question. if you've  any dubts, don't hesitate to contact me.

The Italian government makes it virtually impossible to obtain either Residency or Citizenship for anyone outside the European Union..or for whom they deem to be acceptable refugees.  Forget it...it is worse than the search for the Holy Grail.
As for marriage to an Italian woman...they all want to escape from Italy and to use American men to get U.S. citizenship.   It's high time that people faced facts.

Why is your opinion on this issue so unfavorable?

Experience.

Miss Lara

The experience is a bittersweet one.The Italian government is not willing to give you the opportunity without a fight. At the end of the day/fight, what everybody does is to move to another Country with more benefits and opportunity.
For me, I am looking forward to a Country where I can go back to School as a mature student, Italy didnt offer me that.Few years ago while studying Economics and Programming and I found it difficult to follow up the course, I had to change to something easier but lo and behold, at 22, I was too old to get admitted !What????? But fortunately for me, I got on the course.(1 out of millions of reasons Italy didnt just do it for me, education is zero and you are not supported in anywhere.) So, I ask, how does a Country move out of poverty with that mindset?
Thanks to my parents who convinced me to put in for the Citizenship, now I have it and can't wait till September to say my goodbyes.
I am happy though, I can keep my other Nationality.
Shout outs to anyone who has ideas on European Countries where Adult Education is acceptable and have opportunities to work and settlement.
Thank You.
