Motorbike helmet.

Dear All,

I have bought a helmet in the uk (roof boxer v8) and I would like to put it in my suitcase and bring it to Mauritius to use there.

Trouble is, a friend told me you cant import motorcycle helmets to Mauritius?

Is this true? I don't want to have it confiscated when I land - it's expensive! I cant even return it now.

[I'm guessing there might be restrictions on things like helmets due to health and safety - but surely the standards in the UK (or france, as the helmet is made in france) are equal or surpass  that of mauritius?

Thanks

Vedan

You can have a thorough look. I could not see helmet listed!!
BUT I found on the 3rd page that Crash helmet is one of the restricted item!!You can take a risk and bring it with you!!I

perhaps there is another way in that you contact one of the many motorcycle dealers in Mauritius to see if they are able to get it for you or they have in stock

Thanks for the reply. A useful link.

Indeed crash helmet is part of Restricted Goods:
[Restricted goods may be imported or exported provided the importer or exporter has the
necessary authorization/permits].

So they are not banned but you need a permit.

I hoping that's for people who import by the 1000's. I just have one helmet for personal use. Hopefully, that's ok.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I should have bought it in Mauritius. Things tend to be more expensive than the uk so I bought it here. I did not think there would be a problem.
