After hiring cars way tooooo many times Im going to take the plunge and buy a car!   Can anyone recommend any good dealers in Malta or maybe companies in Malta that specialise in sourcing cars in the UK and importing them and sorting out all the paperwork/paying taxes?   I was going to drive one over from the UK but I just cant face doing that......

We bought ours from A&A Imports in Mosta 14 months ago (Used Japanese import, 2006 Toyota Ractis). Aaron (one of the As of A&A) has been very helpful over that time whenever we've needed anything. It's just a small operation - he's only there part time as he owns a drapery shop in Mosta too! You won't get high pressure selling from him. Price was competitive. He matched an 18-month warranty another dealer was going to give (he uses a local garage for any warranty work - haven't needed to use it yet).

I know Ricky recommends the local Toyota Dealership - Michael Debono in Zebbug.

Dino's in Lija nearly got our business 14 months ago.

I know a couple of people who do private imports of UK cars from time to time.

Good luck - there's certainly plenty of people on the island trying to sell cars!

Be very careful on any car without a VRT from 2011  -the VRT testing has got MUCH stricter this year

Suzanna2010

ok thanks for that heads up re VRT

another thought.....does anyone know if I can use my no claims bonus from UK when insuring the car that I buy in Malta or do I have to start again?!

You certainly can - just need evidence from your current insurer.

Sadly I cant now come out until May as so many loose ends to tie up here :(...... but will be out for pretty much for the whole of May, which is my favourite month :)
Really looking forward to catching up with you both.  How is the job going?
