Compare life in Beijing and Cyberjaya

Post new topic

maverick_y_pita

Hello everyone,

I am currently making decision to work in Beijing (China) or Cyberjava (Malaysia) where I have never been to before. I have been searching information about these places yet still not able to pick one as both have advantages and disadvantages. Some of my friends gave 50:50 viewpoints about these two cities. I am very confused.
These are few things I concern:

- How much should be okay to live normal life in both cities
- Income (Beijing is higher than CyberJaya $280)
- Working time (Beijing: Mon-Fri; Cyberjaya: in shift)
- Job type (I prefer it in Cyberjava)
- Air pollution/ bad food
- Transportation
- Rental
- Tax deduction
- English speaking area (I cant speak Chinese/ Mandarin)
- Religion

I would really appreciate if anyone spends sometimes to give me more direction before opting to go with one.
Thank you in advance.

I would say malaysia over Beijing. I have not lived in both places but just visited them few times. For similar amount of salary, malaysia will give you better quality of life.

Definitely Malaysia.

Thanks a lot you guys.
And yeah I will go with Malaysia ;)

Hello Pita,

Since you've answered the first few questions, I will proceed with the next :) Note that these are my opinions :)

Air pollution - If I'm not mistaken, the air in Beijing is more polluted

Transportation - Truth to be told, I think the public transport in Beijing is more efficient than Cyberjaya, but that is subjected to change as it depends on your lifestyle.

Rental - Cyberjaya is better imo.

Tax deduction - not sure, maybe you can refer to these links:

English - In general, Malaysia has more English speakers.

Religion - Malaysia is multi-cultural and multi-religious country. Islam is the dominant religion, with Buddhism, Christianity, and Hinduism as the runners-up. China, on the other hand, isn't an extremely religious country (according to my Chinese friends).

This is very helpful, Naomi.  I so much appreciate.

I am also searching for more information about banking jobs, do you happen to know any clue that expats can find opportunities in Malaysia?

Gravitas

There may be call centre jobs for banks but otherwise banking is a career mainly for local Malaysians unless a senior job.

Check on all job portals for employers needing your languages as that is the most direct way to finding work i.e. the job cannot be done by a local.

Cyberjaya is a good place to live, but boring. Less traffic congestion, less pollution, less food & entertainment option, but boring

maverick_y_pita

I see. But still worth for a new adventure, isnt it?
It would be lovely to meet up with you all once I arrive there  :)

Just for sharing obviously I don't no much about Beijing but if you talk about Cyberjaya it's a nice great place to stay and work. Less traffic less polution. Nearby to Putrajaya another great township.

maverick_y_pita

@Jahan1708: Oh yes now I am really excited and looking forward to being there.
And the weather in Cyberjaya is similar to KL, isnt it?

Jahan1708

Yes it's similar to KL but quiet and calm. Not as busy as KL

Jahan1708

If you like quiet and less traffic it's a perfect place. Not like KL busy and crowded with heavy traffic.

maverick_y_pita

I do like both :D sometimes I like to be in the crowd, sometimes yearn for quietness.
Thanks a lot Jahan.

You are most welcome
