Safe places to travel

Post new topic

Currently there is a travel advisory warning from the British Government advising against all but essential travel to the Mindanao region. It states most provinces, including Lanao del Norte Province.

I have been once before....in March of this year and the travel advisory notice was in force then.
I was the only pasty white guy there.....stood out like a sore thumb.....hehehehehe
But I was well looked after and did feel safe.

For my own personal reasons I am considering making this trip again.....before the end of this year.

Does anyone have any sensible thins to say about safety..... a good place to stay.........a taxi company that can meet me at Ozamis airport......a "body guard / personal escort".

Or is it just....do not go???

Thanks

Firstly great to see an adventurer, life is short and we should enjoy.

As your are probably aware there two levels of security, one is street crime and the other the real bad guys (kidnap).

Sorry I cannot give any direct advise to your questions, except to say that getting a body guard is a waste of time.  If a group wants to kidnap you they will, it will not be one or two people coming for you, they are semi professionals and will send at least 10 armed men.

An ongoing feeling of safety should not lead to compliancy.
*  Unless you are happy to accept the consequences.  If you do accept the consequences then live and love life, but don't ask your government or the Philippine government to help you out if it all goes wrong.

About me I lived in Southern Mindanao (not Davao where I now live) the level of street crime was low (after the new president), so I felt safe in regards to living a normal life.  However in the back of my mind I was aware that if one day the real bad guys wanted to get me that the good, and I accepted that, other wise you would not sleep.

An ongoing feeling of safety should not lead to compliancy.
