Hi Everyone.

Im a bit stumped. I live in Ontario, Canada.  I am married to a man who is from Norway. We are in the process of a separation. Nothing has been finalized.  I have recently found strong evidence through social media that he has married a girl in Morocco.  Which means he is married to both of us.

I have lived the last 14 years of my life in a lie while he has been living a double life.

I keep hitting brick wall and not sure how to get the paper evidence I need to prove this to be correct.

Im not sure what the laws are and what the reprocusions of this are in Morocco.

Where can I go to get the information I need or to get a copy of the Marriage certificate if this is in fact true. I am stumped and stressed.

I hope someone can point me in a direction that will make this easier for me.

Hi there

Wow...that's a really tough situation to be in and I am NOT sure anyone has the answer! Though I've lived here about 5yrs ( and also from Ontario) I do not think there is a centralized database. Marriages are normally performed by an Adul / local imam the traditional way. The Adul after performing the marriage issues a handwritten or typed up letter/certificate. To my knowledge, there is no requirement to register this certificate with any other office. Also, most administrative offices here still do things manually so one sees a lot of papers and files being lugged around.

I hope someone reads this post and gives you a better answer. You may also want to search previous posts here as this topic often comes up. I remember someone recently asking about "rules for taking a second wife"

I truly empathize with your situation as one can only imagine the roller coaster emotions and heartache you are going through.

Good luck and God Bless

Yes,  Ali is correct.  Unless you know which municipality it was in, it wiuld be very difficult to find out.
Unless maybe he got married and then used that as a reason to get a residency card?  Then MAYBE the national poluce woukd have that information in their computer.
I,m married to a moroccan and i am trying to think if our information was recorded anywhere else and im sure it was not.  The US Internal Revenue Service knows but only because i requested a number for  him to claim him on my taxes.  Maybe he registered it in Norway?

Good luck with this, and i am so sorry for what you are going through.

I totally agree with Adrienne. However one does not need to marry a local to stay in Morocco. As long as a person shows proof you can support yourself you are given a resident permit.

I am NOT sure if it is even possible to find out if a person is married. This will NOT be an easy task and a huge undertaking for reasons we have already mentioned.

So be prepared for an emotional roller coaster and frustrating experience. Considering what you have already gone through and still going through, I'm not sure its worth it as your plate is already full and overflowing.

Good luck

Ali

Thank you Ali for taking the  time to reply to me.  I have read all the forums and discussions without coming up with any answers.  I have called a few government offices and nobody has answers. Almost like a situation like this does not exist.

I am not heartbroken.  I am very sickened by the fact that another human can disrespect someone in this fashion and be able to get away with it.  He has also done other shaddy things that I have discover over time and gotten away with it. This was kind of like my last straw.  I am sure this other girl does not know the situation and is innocent in all this.  I could just contact her but I would really rather not as I do not want him to get wind of the fact that I know this as yet.  Not until i actually have hard evidence.  That is why I am looking to get some kind of marriage certificate in my hand.

I will keep searching and hopefully be guided to the answers.

Thank you Adrienne.  This is quite concerning that there may be no records.  I am on a hunt and hopefully the right person will read these posts.

Hi Ali,  It is not about this being a huge undertaking or weather it is worth it or not.  It is about right from wrong.  It is about two innocent women.  He has done a lot of other wrongs over the past 14 years and has gotten away with all of them, or has had only a slap on the wrist.
I am not prepared to let him get away again.  I will do the best I can to come to some kind of conclusion and not let him do to another innocent woman what his has done to me.  I do not believe he will stop here.

Sueali
you are most welcome!  Wish I could have been of more help. Hopefully, someone will read the post and provide a solution for you. I also think its very sweet and decent of you to want to warn "future" victims from this guy.
