Advice on depositing foreign Bankers Drafts

Post new topic

SILVER GIRLY

Hi everyone,  this is my first post and would like to thank anyone in advance, who is able to offer advice or is happy to share their experience when trying to deposit a large cheque/bank draft into their bank.
I am particularly interested in Bank names and their rates of commission.  (Which at the moment looks like the worst rip-off ever known).

I suggest you speak to some  banks as the fees they charge and the services they provide vary so much that what one person finds acceptable another may not

Do not assume you know how things might be provided.  Make a list of all services you might need and ask about each.   You can negotiate with bank managers regarding charges.  That is by far best done before you open an account

Unless you are already committed I think you may find better ways of transferring funds than by bankers drafts

Just as example   I knew the potential problem so I tried to negotiate a transfer charge.  The bank would not help and eventually charged me just over £800   That was 0•4 % on the whole amount

Hi John, many thanks for your reply.  As you say, unfortunately we are already committed and have the Bank Draft.    :(

Nevertheless shop around for a bank that will give you a good deal,  otherwise you may get a nasty shock

Have you considered the possibility of maybe depositing the draft in say a U.K. bank and then making a transfer by a more efficient method ?

Spanish banking is very different from banking in U.K.  At the risk of being boring,  check and check again before commiting to a spanish bank

(I cancelled my spanish bank credit card some years ago and have since used my nationwide Visa card for almost all purchases   I pay in euros as the U.K. bank make no charges and give an exceptionally  good exchange rate )
