Holiday food in Colombia

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hello,

End of year holidays around the world are such an exciting time of the year, with holiday food playing a big part of the traditions and celebrations.

What are some traditions surrounding holiday meals in Colombia?

Tell us about a few of the traditional holiday dishes and meals in Colombia.

What are some of your favourites?

Are the food that are consumed during the festive season easy to prepare at home, or do most people buy them at the store?

Are holiday meals a big family festivity in Colombia?

Is there a general budget that people allocate to holiday meals?

Thank you for sharing your experience,

Priscilla

Hard to say as is my first full Holiday Season in Colombia.
From prior partial experiences - lots of family meetings - have suggested to my son that if he wants to visit from the U.S. he should wait until December 20th.  By then all the Novenas are over.

I am used to cooking a Rib Roast for Christmas - will have to see if I can find one here.

Another option is having a turkey of your choice oven-cooked for the holiday.

Look at restaurants and street signs displaying the words Horneo Pavo.

A lot of families use two- or four-burner cooktops for most meals at home throughout the year .. opting out of the expense of buying an oven or a stove containing an oven.

Hence, the rent-an-oven option that brings in some extra holiday bucks for restaurants and other parties .. as mentioned in my turkey post above.
