A few questions regarding arrival (using orientation year visa)

Post new topic

Hello everyone! I'm currently living in Sweden and have just graduated from my masters degree and would like to move to the Netherlands first using the orientation year visa and look for job once arrived. I wonder if anyone can share some advice on the questions I'm having in mind right now.

1. To my understanding I'm supposed to register at the municipality within days I have arrive, so does everyone arrange their housing before arrival into the Netherlands?

2. Does anyone know if I have to leave the schengen area and enter again after I obtain my MVV/residence permit from the Netherlands as an 'official entry' as I'm in Sweden right now?

3. Do most company consider your job application if they know your residence permit is processing, or I should wait until I'm actually in Netherlands?

Any thought will be greatly appreciated!

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

To answer your questions:

1.  Registration.  You have 5 days to register at the Gemeentehuis (Town Hall) where you are living.  You can register from any address as long as the landlord permits it; we've had reports of people registering from a hotel room in the past.

2.  Entry.  The rules regarding application etc are all explained on the Dutch Government (IND) website; this link will take you there.  If you have any specific questions related to your application, the IND has a contact page with phone numbers and e-mail addresses that you can use to contact them and ask your specific questions, on their website; this link will take you there.  They also have a Twitter feed that you can use to ask general questions; you can access that at @IND_NL.

3.  Job Application.  Should you get a highly skilled migrant job, then your future employer will apply for your visa/residence permit on your behalf; long-distance job searching without it is problematic and you would probably be better off waiting until you get to the Netherlands.

Don't forget to start learning Dutch; it can only help you in your endeavour.

I wish you the best of luck.

Hope this helps.
