Advice Needed - Going abroad for 3 months without a residence address

Hello everyone,

I am planning a 3 month trip to my home country, and want to make the trip after my rental contract in the Netherlands ends, so that I won't have to pay rent for the duration of my trip. But this means I will have no address registration in the Netherlands for 3 months.

I did some research and found out there is something called "briefadres" which sounds like it solves the problem of not having any adress registration. But when I contacted with IND they advised me not to do that, why - I have no idea.

Is there anyone who got a "briefadres" for a similar reason and can share her/his expereience? Also is there any other way that I can register to an adress for 3 months without rent?

Hi again.

Briefadres is what Dutch people do who live in a place that the law doesn't allow year round living, they either move somewhere else for a couple of months (i.e. go on vacation), or much more common is they pretend to live somewhere else by getting a different postal address (PO Box number) for a couple of months; I'm not surprised the IND said what they did, the whole system hides a whole lot of stuff.

As for the rest; if you do not have a registered address in the Netherlands, then you won't be resident and won't have to pay your rent, medical insurance, gemeente belasting, water and sewage costs etc etc.  However, as a 3rd country national, you also lose your residence chain, so if your ultimate aim was to get permanent residence in the Netherlands, you will be starting again.

Up to you really.
