Hello everyone
I am interested in finding out about sending balikbayan boxes to Ph., specifically from Melbourne to Cebu. Has anyone had any experience with these, who to use, who to avoid ?   Where do you get the boxes ?   Does each company have its own boxes ?   What sizes are there ?   Any idea on cost and time taken ?  What are the legalities ?  What can you and what can't you put in them ( I do realize no firearms )  Do they get opened or just scanned ?  How secure are they ?
Thanking all of you in advance for you information and speedy replies
regards  Bruce

Hi Go Dees
I am in Brisbane and the cost is relevant to where you are located and to where you send the box. We pay from Bris to Davao about $150 and $15 for the box. i have used several different companies and have never lost anything including sending to Dumaguette (small island near Cebu $160). Boxes have never been opened so must be scanned.
Most common things we send is food (tins), clothing, kids games and items not available in PH. It usually takes about 6 weeks to ship there. Just use common sense if you can not carry it on the plane then do not send it in a box.

In Brisbane we have little Filipino shops who sell Filipino products and organise the boxes. They have a standard size depending on the company they use.

Many Filipinos send these boxes but my wife limits it to 1 box a year for xmas as if you send the money for the box it is enough for them to buy more goods in PH.

We previously have sent vitamins as well though have stopped this since the war on drugs commenced, just to avoid our boxes being opened

In Pennsylvania we have the boxes picked up at our house and shipped by sea, takes 10 weeks usually, longer at Christmas.  Had a box sent 10/7/18, arrived at our house in the Philippines on 1/8/19, 13 weeks.  The current cost is $65 a box with no weight limits, just volume for the size of the boxes, about 36 inches by 24 inches by 30 inches.

My wife said the company names are Forex, LBC and Will Cargo and she said it would be around $120 from Melb to Cebu

We are in Melbourne and regularly send boxes thru LBC.  They have their own boxes.  Their depot is in the western suburbs.  Shipping time varies, but usually around the 6 weeks, maybe a bit longer.
Never had any issues with boxes being opened or tampered with.

We often send boxes via LBC at Christmas and  before we visit. Its very straight forward 150 per box no weight  limit they pick up and its door to door. We normally pick the boxes ourselves from the local Philo store near us. Never had a problem in 30 years  of any sort.
