Hi guys
I tried to look on the appropriate website for this but ended up going in circles

Have been married for 6 years to  a Dutch citizen. We do not live in England nor the Netherlands (I'm  English)

For obvious reasons we have been thinking about me becoming Dutch.

I have heard that I won't need to take the language exam? Truth? Anyone shed any light on the process for me?

The appropriate website is that of the IND, which has all the info you need (also in English). As a Brit who recently also became Dutch (because of Brexit) the process was very simple to become a dual national (no language or integration test needed) because 1) I'm over 65 and 2) I've lived in NL for decades. In your case you could follow a similar process because you have a Dutch wife but you would first have to be resident in NL for some time to do it.
