A Finance Manager Plan to have Filipino Cafe Restaurant in Vietnam

Post new topic

Rowena Manzon

Hi Everyone,

I am currently working as a Finance manager in an Australian Company in the Philippines and planning to move to HCM Saigon in the future.

I am currently scouting for possible work in Vietnam as a Finance Manager or Senior Accounting Manager and to fulfill my other passion in cooking/baking Filipino foods by creating a business as an entrepreneur in Vietnam as i know a lot of Filipino are working in Vietnam and craving for the Filipino and a side of western taste as well.

Thank you very much,

Weng

The problem with "employment" in VN is the same across any field of work ... you are basically bringing a higher quality service to a society that can not afford to pay you a western salary .... AT BEST you might be able to find a foreign company, who is basically in VN capitalizing on Cheap Labor ....

Your starting point is basically a dead stop of "nothing" in terms of employment ... but if you are willing to settle for less, and dont mind being advertised as their "Western Employee" then you may have a chance, but keep in mind, the most common degree in VN for 2018 graduates was "Accounting" .... well over 200,000 ... and the number of companies registered in VN has dropped ( which is probably not an accurate number since that only means "registered businesses" and there is no way to measure the actual number ...

As for opening a restaurant .... you can't walk 5 meters in any direction in any major city in VN without tripping over chairs set out by make shift "mom & pop" restaurants .... But that is not to say that Foreign Owners don't do well here .... There are a lot of Foreign owned restaurants here ( crazy American selling "American BBQ" at prices that is insane to the locals, yet he has been operating for years, and has turned a decent profit.

Viets seem to go crazy over anything with "western" tags on it ... but finding your balance is going to be a complete nightmare.
