Help moving my pets to Bahrain

Post new topic

NJcara

Hi all!
We're moving from the US to Bahrain shortly. Husband will be there in about 10 days and we will follow in early March. We moved to Riyadh a few years back so we've got a handle on things so far!
One thing I do need help with is getting some recommendations on services to assist in getting my pets over safely. Does anyone know of ANY airline that will allow me to travel with my 3 lb chihuahua in the cabin with me in a carrier under my seat? I've heard different stories about the quarantine process upon arrival. If documents and such are in order can quarantine be avoided? Any referrals on a pet relo service would be REALLY appreciated.
Thanks guys!
Cara

Have your husband try to get in touch with an animal hospital over there (like in Kuwait there was one that dealt mainly with Expats). They did all the required paperwork for us.

Make sure your dogs don't need a Titertest to get into the country (a blood test for the Rabies). I don't recall if it was required for Kuwait.

I doubt pretty much that any airline will let you fly with 3 dogs in the cabin. We couldn't even fly with the Dachsen in one box with the Labrador. But just call all the airlines that fly there and ask them personally. That will be your only way to be sure (and even then it sometimes varies).

If you can't find a Vet in Bahrain, or no one here can help you, let me know and I try my Luck with getting a number or email from the guys in Kuwait.

Best of Luck!

Jo Ann

Cara, I moved your topic to the Bahrain forum :-)

British Airways has an excellent reputation for flying animals, and there are companies in the UK that are specialist travel agents for animals, and people traveling with animals.  If you have to fly the dog cargo, come back on and ask, I have done it and would have some pointers for you, and I could give you some links to some websites that would help.

Thanks for your reply. I'm going to keep researching to see if I can find an airline that will let her fly in the cabin first. At 3 lbs she's a bit fragile for the temps in cargo.
Thanks,
Cara

Oh, I read that wrong.
At 3lbs any airline will let her fly usually.
There shouldn't be a problem.
They usually allow up to 8 (some 10) Kilo including the weight of the carrier (you will need one that is made for transport on planes).

(I read 3 dogs, sorry, dooh ;) )

Most airlines have said no to letting her travel in the cabin. Do you know of a specific airline that will allow it? Seems to be an issue not so much with the airline but with the countries laws regarding importing of animals.

Thanks again,
Cara

I know of Lufthansa and KLM that would allow it.
But then again, maybe the laws have changed (they constantly change).

Try to reach a Veterinarian at your airport, they are awfully stressed, but usually can provide a good tip or two.

Hi there, here is the name of a pet travel agent in the UK, I don't want to harp on about it, but they can also arrange your tickets I think, and they can certainly help you out with a question or two...I just looked on the net for "pet travel agents UK"

The airline regulations about animals in the cabin change constantly...they have problems with other passenger's allergies, with dogs barking incessantly, with owners that let the animals out of the cage, and then the animals run around/pee/growl etc etc etc.....

You could give them a call, they may be of some help...

Cheers,
