Once PACsed does long-stay visa application for spouse apply?

I am an American PACSed with a French national and looking at the long-stay visa application options. Do I apply as a tourist or as the spouse of a French citizen? I can't find this information anywhere.
Thank you for your help!

Also, if PACS isn't the same as "spouse" for visa application purposes, does anyone have any knowledge or experience with the student visa? Even though I'm over 60, its never too late to become fluent in the French language, right? There's a nice program in Clermont-Ferrand and it's 1300 euro for the year. My goal is to get the Carte de Séjour Familiale after 1 year. Thanks again,

Patrice

Hi Patrice, this isn't a complete answer, but...
PACSée isn't the same as spouse, but I know that PACSés can get the vie privée et familiale titre de séjour in France, after some amount of time of living together (I think it's 1 year?).
I don't know how the consulates deal with this for a visa.
At minimum, you could come on a visitor visa, then switch to vpf upon renewal. I would attempt to find out directly from the consulate re your visa/tds, but only if you have proof of living together for a "long enough" period of time before your application.
Good luck,
Julie

Thanks Julie! Although i have great monthly income, i unfortunately don’t have one year’s worth of living expenses sitting in the bank so now I’m looking at the long-stay student visa. Kill two birds with one stone: get a visa and study the French language! Win-win!
Yes, my long-term objective is to get the “PACS Visa” which is actually a residence permit=Carte de Séjour Familiale. To get that you must prove 1 year of living together. It’s such a long process.

Hi.
If you want a resident permit based on the pacs you MUST prove 12 months of uninterrupted living together in France before applying.
While marriage gives a full right to a permit,it's given to pacsed as a favour from the prefer. It's usually granted but you must prove 12 months by formal means: electricity bills, home assurance etc in both names. You then apply. If you apply too soon,or without two proof/month there is a real risk of refusal and even OQTF. (Order to leave the country). I'm in an organisation where we deal with these issues every day,and the 12 months delay is an obligation.

Hi, yes I understand this. It’s the type of long-stay visa that allows a person to stay in France that I’m wondering about. It would be easier to complete the spouse long-stay visa application but does a PACS count as “spouse”?

@talatta This is interesting.  «uninterrupted » you mean you did stay in France for a whole straight year?  what if i had a VLS TS valid for a year, within that, i got PACSed in the 6th month of stay. I cannot apply yet for PACS since we just have half of the year proof of living together. My visa expires and i go back to my country of origin. I apply for another visa and returns to france 1 month after with a new Visa. Can I still apply for PACS on our 1st year anniversary as PACSed? Or it counts back to one? Thank you in advance.
