Jet lag/ November weather

What would you suggest for clothings I have read different things some say layers some say summer clothes some say warmer clothes November 4th through 20th I will be coming with my family and looking at different areas to live... also what do you do for jet lag I am nursing my baby so I can’t take anything to aid in my sleep and I always have a little anxiety to deal with it seems when I travel with the jet lag etc... also what suggestions would help my little one get through the jet lag (we have an 8 hour time difference!) baby will be 9 months then thanks!! Oh one more thing when we look for places we are considering a cheaper place to rent not so close to the touristy areas but more villages with a 20 minute drive or so say to the ocean or even an hour would be fine, where would  you suggest as we are not set on north or south but open to both. Thanks!

for the time period you indicate it is usually still warm during the day but can vary but it is much cooler-colder at night so prepare with layers...

sorry cant help much with the jet lag or baby issues

If you are flying into the RoC (south) then no doubt you will be hiring a car be aware that most car hire companies will not allow you to take their cars across the border to the illegally occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus (north) .. although some will... and to travel across you will need all your passports and car log book if driving plus pay a fee for insurance... at the border.

Locations are a very personal choice and much depends an what you want from the Cyprus experience...

There are hundreds of lovely villages - best advice I can offer you is to choose a location for your "research break" that is central to the island and strike out in all directions from there - so just north of Limassol would seem to me to be a good choice as that would allow visiting many areas  within  45mins to an hour drive in almost any direction.

Very good advice as always thank you so much! What did you not expect when you moved to cyprus that you love and that did you not expect in cyprus that you wish you had prepared for better? Thanks you’re experience helps so many!

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

Advice for jetlag:

Always try and time your flights so the longest sectors are overnight; so leave early evening if possible (it helps your body clock adjust).
Try to sleep after your evening meal - difficult with the baby; ask the airline if they have sky cots
Drink plenty of water (no coffee)
No medication unless prescribed; if so, then speak to your doctor before you travel to seek his advice
When you get the chance en-route and on arrival, stay outside in the daylight (not direct sun), it helps your body clock reset.
The baby may get ear/nose pressure problems during take-off and landing; swallowing relieves that, so bring a baby bottle with suitable water in it and give it shortly after take-off and landing.

Hope this helps.

wow thats a good question.....

am not sure i can answer it AS WE WERE QUITE WELL PREPARED HAVING DONE A LOTS OF RESEARCH AND HAD FRIENDS WHO HAD DONE THE SAME MOVE MALTA TO CYPRUS 3 MONTHS EARLIER.. SO WE LEARNED FROM THEIR EXPERIENCES AND MISTAKES.

we arrived in Cyprus in late July and we didnt the expect the extreme heat despite having been acclimatised to a high level of heat in Malta over the previous 6 yrs...  Am not saying i love extreme  heat as i tend to stay in the shade in late june july and august.... and the pool comes in very very handy all day every day as local beaches get crammed this end so we try and find more secluded quieter spots just off the Akamas...

We also didnt bring much over with us - as we rented and only brought summer clothes with us and a few knick knacks in 6 cases .. plus our maltese cat - we sent all our winter clothes over by mail  as we knew a delay in arriving wouldnt be a problem... - we sold everything else. Had we moved from UK direct to here or malta we would probably have brought/shipped all domestic and electricals as they are expensive in both malta and here) However we decided on balance to sell it all rather than ship stuff over and use the cash raised to fund new stuff when settled in... would ve brought more electricals... clothes can be expensive here too but after 5 yrs we are used to it now and ship what we can from the the online shops who ship here.

we do like the quality and variety of of food here which I didnt really expect and i like stuff here that i wouldnt have dreamt of back home or Malta.

I expected traffic and driving standards to be worse than malta but was pleasantly surprised to find that the roads are far better and the driving standard is also better (altho some would argue that it isnt but believe me it is way better than maltas standard) but not to the same level as british roads and driving..... but hey ho we are happy with it - I didnt come here to have another little britain I do my best to avoid large groups  of brits and get to the cypriot taverns, bars and beach bars etc
we did the same in malta too...

i like a balanced mix if possible... but its so nice and refreshing to get out of my village into the hills and into a truly cypriot village... one day we will make the change.... but not quite ready yet.

One thing i didnt expect was the barking hunting dogs issue in some places.. it is out of control and nothing seems to be able to be done about it....not the dogs fault at all I may add but the irresponsible owners...

everything else we have experienced or come across  are not really big issues.. just a fact of life when moving to a new country you want to call home..... all have been dealt with relatively easily although occasionally it was found to be frustrating but having lived in malta it was kind of expected.,. .but was surprised that the ID registration and tax compliance was actually quite easy....  as was banking...

Great! Thank you, I am going to the Akamas area and golden beach this time I look forward to that because as you said less people as November will be less anyhow I prefer as you stated as well a mix but truly look forward to the traditional more laid back lifestyle of the Cypriots!
