Where is the best place to start from; Hanoi or HCM?
I'm a non native English speaker seeking to teach English in Vietnam.
Thanks.

In general, there's more demand for teachers in HCMC than in Ha Noi. At the same time, Ha Noi is less popular so the rate of pay is a bit higher there.

It's hard to say which one is better without knowing what you are looking for. But, most teachers prefer HCMC due to the weather and that it's more fun. I think it may also have a lower cost of living. In addition, it's closer to the neighboring Southeast Asian countries.

Anyway, what are your goals and criteria?

Thanks for responding.
I have B.ED(English). I have being teaching English in Ghana since 2010. Last year(2018) I bagged TESOL and TEFL certificates to my laurels. I then took a TEFL teaching appointment with a language center in Togo. My contract has ended with them and am seeking to explore other opportunities abroad. I have settled on Vietnam. I am gathering all the information I need to settle in quickly. I will accept appointments even in remote areas; this way, I can integrate with locals and pick up the language at real fast pace. I should arrive by the first week in September.

You should be contacting the schools directly in order to network and see what your options are. Most of the work is teaching kids. There are opportunities throughout much of Vietnam.

You can post your CV and view ads on https://www.expat.com here:

Lots of ads here and you can post your CV if you want to:

Or, just search online, for example:

You should still remain cautious because some schools may also be a bit dodgy. Also, although there is a lot of demand (VN is now the 15th most populous country in the world), there is also a lot of competition as more and more people arrive with the idea of finding a teaching job.

So, although it is easy to get a teaching job in VN, it's a little more difficult to find a good one.  Cities near the beach such as Da Nang, Nha Trang and Vung Tau generally have plenty of people there already looking for teaching work.

Thanks so much for your time.
