MMR vaccine given after the child exceeds 18 months of age

Hi,

In Bangladesh, they given MR (Measles and Rubella) vaccines at the age of 9 months and 15 months. My children are given MR vaccines at 9 months. We have missed their MR vaccines at 15 months and now they are 26 months and 4yrs 5 months.

For Dependent Pass (DP), Health Promotion Board verifies if 2 doses of measles vaccines are given between 12 to 18 months of age. In my case, if I give 2 doses of MMR (with 4 weeks gap between doses) now before applying for Verification of Vaccination Requirements (VR), will it be acceptable by Health Promotion Board?

Please share your similar experiences and knowledge regarding this matter.

Thanks,
Prem

If local doctor finds it okay then you may give to your child. Later, submit all the updated records to MoM for their consideration. Good luck

Fred

MMR can be hard work to find in some Muslim countries due to religious concerns about pork products used in the production process, that meaning MR rather than MMR is common. However, much of the world requires the latter so, assuming your doctor agrees with the vaccination, you would be better from an immigration and protection point of view to have these done.

We have found a private clinic where they give MMR. My question is, if 2 doses of MMR is given now (they have already exceeded 18 months of age), will it be acceptable?

Fred

That's strictly a medical question for a qualified doctor to answer. Safety demands that much.

In medical terms it's fine to give MMR doses at any age with a month gap between doses. I have verified with doctor. But I want to know if it will be acceptable by MoM if vaccines are given to children who have exceeded their required age, which is within 18 months.

Should be okay as long as you can support the claim with documents.

Great, thanks.
