Organic products in France

Post new topic

Hello everyone,

As a consumer in France, you may seek to maintain a healthy lifestyle by choosing mostly organic products. If you do favour such products, we would like to know more about your consumption habits.

Is it easy to find organic products in France (cosmetics, food, etc.)? Where can we find them?

Are organic products more or less expensive than in your country of origin? What average monthly budget do you spend on them?

Can we rely on labels on organic products in France? Are the origins of the products verified by an organization?

Are organic products part of French culture? Have you ever tried to make your own organic products (candles, toothpaste, gardening, food)?

In your opinion, is the consumption of organic products only a fad or does it have real benefits on one’s health?

Thanks for sharing your experience,

Bhavna

Organic products are abundant in France.

Look for the "Bio" word, which is equivalent to "organic".  The main label to look out for is shown here.

France loves Bio. All major supermarkets have Bio sections and there are over 550 cooperative stores that sell only Bio products. These are not expensive elitist outlets, and the quality and range of stock is guaranteed to impress you.

Search online for your nearest outlet at <https://www.biocoop.fr>

Bon appetit!

Even in small towns like Bédarieux (which is where I shop) there are no less than two organic shops. They have a rich variety of food and non-food, at reasonable prices. Plus: their products are from local producers (when they can supply), which is NOT the case with supermarkets and larger chains. Both shops in Bédarieux are not part of the Bio-Coop chain that has been mentioned in another comment. This is to stress the fact that with a little online searching you'll easily find organic shops "everywhere" in France.
