Flight Cancelled

DR is not on the list so I wonder if Air Europa, Iberia, BA and TUI will be flying here?

Coronavirus: EU to allow in visitors from 15 'safe' countries

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-53222356

The so-called "safe travel destinations" are, besides China: Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay.

The UK and four other non-EU states - Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway - are automatically included as "safe".

In reply to your post:

Tui Fly Belgium have cancelled all flights till September and re grouped all their flights from PUJ
Condor have cancelled all their flights until OCTOBER from SDQ and  November from POP
Air Europa re start their flights on July 10 from SDQ
Iberia re start their flights 8 July from SDQ
Air France re start their flights July 5 from SDQ
British Airways do not operate from DR but code share with Iberia/American as part of the One World Group.

I have contacted the French, Spanish & British embassies for clarification.

I note in the BBC article the following:

"The unanimous decision by the European Council is not legally binding, so states can choose not to open up to all those countries".  The reverse applies too.

I would find it extraordinary if all the Caribbean Islands were banned from EU operations.  I note BA are operating from London to St Lucia and Barbados in July as are Air France and Air Caraebes to the French Caribbean islands.  Of course the US, Brazil and Russian were predictable exclusions.

I hope for personal reasons DR is allowed to operate at least some schedule flights (as opposed to charter).  I wait to hear from the embassies shortly and will post their replies.

Interesting to note that as Tourism and Airports are to re open July 1, IATA are still showing DR as closed even thought Jet Blue and others are currently operating to NY & Miami.

Guest2022

It seems illogical what is happening now in DR imo.

Opening up to an outside world without the tough restrictions of elsewhere when the country has increasing whole country high community transmission.

But thats politics and none of our business.

Stay safe.

planner

I absolutely agree.  Sadly we have no say in any of this.

Stay home people especially this weekend.

legs208

Remember to stock up on cerveza and vino as there is no alcohol sales after today.

Guest2022

Good idea, stock up stay at home, drink and be merry, and that way you you avoid contact with an increasingly infected population which could be topped up by arrivals on flights today from the most affected country in the world which is hitting new daily records for contagion.

planner

Where did you see no alcohol sales already? Normally its  24 hours before polls open and  24 hours after polls close!

ducketts

You might as well say it, the US of course.  Crazy.

I note that DR, as of this morning, is showing via IATA, all airports closed to commercial traffic.  What's wrong with IADC?  Do they not communicate?

Correct. Tried to change it to after Friday

Yup.  That is the normal!   You had us worried  :D:D:D

The first flights have arrived in the DR and here we have the details

https://hoy.com.do/ya-llegaron-a-rd-los … -detalles/

AS AMERICAS AIRPORT. -The arrival of Jet Blue Flight 1637 from San Juan, Puerto Rico with 62 passengers on board, marked the reopening of national and international air operations, after 4 months of suspension due to the global
coronavirus pandemic .

The flight, whose arrival was scheduled for 7:53 in the morning, arrived 13 minutes early and the passengers, men and women of different ages, were taken off the aircraft and placed at a distance as part of the sanitary protocol against Covid. l9.

Subsequently, they were passed one by one through a system of temperature collection cameras and then they went to the Migration rooms for the check of documentation, including passports, air tickets, as well as medical certifications of not having been affected by the disease.

The total number of flights projected for this Wednesday is 14 round trips to the United States, Puerto Rico and Madrid, Spain, twelve of them to be performed by the North American airline Jet Blue and the rest by Spirit and Air Europa.

The second flight marked 1203 arrived at Las Americas airport at 8:55 minutes from Neward and the third from New York City at 9:46 minutes number 2809. Both from the same Jet Blue Airline.

'Declaracion jurada de salud' and return ticket needed to present to immigration, plus all the other protocols as the video.

What is required for the jurada de salud? The existing one for repatriation flights needed a recent PCR test.

WillieWeb

Depending where you read....

the information varies -
nothing req'd to enter but a temp check on entry
or
paperwork declaring you safe
that paperwork idea varies too
Health certif.... tests....

Just a mess

Guest2022

The protocols aren't  even formally issued.

Even the smallest Caribbean islands have announced very clear plans well in advance about the requirements for passengers arriving and posted the forms required to be submitted prior to flying.

It is a mad rush to open everything up to appease people like the Ranieri's and other business people and try and win the support of the population for the elections.

Nearby Puerto Rico with a lesser covid19 probem than us, still maintains a curfew and isn't opening up so quickly.

Supposedly we are competing with Jamaica and Mexico. Jamaica has much better planning and Mexico is a covid19 plague ridden corrupt country.

Anyhow, maybe tourists will look at our spirralling covid19 cases and think twice and opt for countries that have got some level of control.

A mess yes WW.

Todays' YouGov poll in the UK

"Summer Holidays: It has been announced that passengers may no longer have to quarantine when travelling between the UK and some countries, under the government's air bridges scheme

However, only 11% of Britons say they intend on holidaying abroad this summer

77% who say they won't be going on holiday outside of the UK

I would imagine many EU countries will be the same.

WillieWeb

I have already heard of a Scot who has wintered here every year since 2009

Cuba this winter for him
No Americans and a better managed virus control - he says

Here's another clip - Saying no test req'd to enter

Guest2022

They will prohibit entry of travelers from countries severely affected by Covid-19

https://www.arecoa.com/destinos/2020/07 … -covid-19/

He explained that although flight restrictions are open as of July 1, the country may issue additional resolutions to those that have been issued to limit the entry of travelers from countries or areas at risk.

"There is a period that we will take to take the forecasts with some territories that could be prohibited by Public Health in view of its high contamination," he said.

planner

Not surprising but RIDICULOUS management of this mess.

DRVisitor

Still confusing, allowed in, some countries, health test or not...

WillieWeb

Flights/passengers seem to be arriving....

heard of a few so far... temp test on arrival - simple form to fill out re health
nothing to fear it appears

planner

That is what I have read as well. You fill out an affidavit and of course no one will lie.  The issue really is the people travelling with no symptoms but shedding disease.

Guest2022

DR is ignoring all the common sense adopted by other countries in Europe where they have a level of control of the virus and have black lists of badly affected countries, and are letting people arrive from the most seriously affected country in the world, the USA, without any proper checks that virtually all other countries demand. All that is required is a  temperature check and a simple health declaration form which means asymptomatic an incubation cases enter and mix with the population.

So the (not so) good news for the country now is that from tomorow, Mexican flights will be arriving from yet another country with very serious problems.

Sarcastically, I suppose that flights from Brazil, Russia, Peru and Chile will be next just to make sure this country joins the group of the seriously affected! We already have 28% positivity - 23% above WHO recommendations for opening up!

Best course of action is self quarantine and stay safe from others.

planner

I was out today because I had to be.  I walked into a grocery store and walked back out.  Way too many people and zero social distancing.  Don't go to Bravo people.   Went down the street to Jumbo and no problems at all!

We are in big trouble, stay home people.

Guest2022

Any responsible government would not allow  flights to arrive from the USA with increasing new cases and 55,500 yesterday with just a temperature check.

That's 3 times DR's total active cases in just one day and likewise more cases in a day than the total in most countries.

The uncontrolled massive spread in that country should not be allowed to be exported we should follow Europe's lead quickly.

ducketts

You're absolutely correct.

4 countries in particular:

US, Brazil, Mexico & Russia

Not sure why the DR Gov doesn't block these countries like the EU have.  Probably as far as the US is concerned it's all about money.  I see a recent Tweet form someone in Gov thanking the US for all the financial and material support for DR.

planner

It's all politics and money.

Depending on this election you MIGHT see something me action.  Depends who wins and if it's decisive

Going sharply upwards now. High positivity. Active cases increasing rapidly. Widespread.

The worst is yet to come. 50% in capital 50% outside and more tests in the capital too.

Lennox I copied this over to the other thread!

Guest2022

Had DR a population of the USA, and if we pro rata the cases of today, then there would be the equivalent of 29,500 cases here with much less testing.

DR has a very serious covid19 problem and needs to really start shutting down again on that basis.

Masks will not solve this problem now, which will get worse when the polical rally conglomeration numbers and likley new imported cases show up in the coming days.

Everybody here needs to take maximum care when out of the home and tell friends and family to take extra care too.

Stay safe.

I have had this conversation multiple times lately.   Compare based on population!!!  We are in trouble.

I'm in the US and we have a complete failure.  I am post infection and antibody positive and hoping to get the hell out of here.

I flew out of RD yesterday to JFK

Not much airport traffic in either

As a Cdn, I passed thru immigration easily
I used my Global Entry
My daughter was in the regular line... she entered too
She was prepared to to say was in transit to the UK if asked

I’ll ask he what happened

2VPsoldier

Were/are you heading back to Canada? Be nice to hear what they say on arrival in Canada. IF landing at Terminal 3 in Toronto, would be nice to know what hotel they are willing to put people up in for the mandatory 14 day self quarantine.... they (government) pays hotel and three meals...cheers

WillieWeb

No - we were going to NYC and PHL... the rest of the family is there

If you need to fib.... you are in transit to Canada -UK wherever

It seems Cdns can enter by air w/o question...

We just stepped out to the curb and my wife picked us up

My daughter was asked where she was coming from - how long there?
Where are you going.... London England... she lives there
Then she jumped ship to the curb

We had sent a test balloon earlier - her boyfriend
he verified that there was control after Immigration

In Toronto - there are numerous hotels at the airport.... many, many

Only 38 of the more than 300 hotels are open and occupancy is 10%

https://eldia.com.do/solo-38-de-los-mas … ion-es-10/

SANTO DOMINGO. -Just 38 of the more than 300 member hotels of the National Association of Hotels and Restaurants (Asonahores) have opened their doors until today; that entity reported.

Another 26 have announced that they plan to do it during the month of July, seven plan to do it in August, four in September, four in October, 15 in November and one in December.

This indicates that between now and December only 95 hotels, that is, a third of the entity's total, would be providing services.

The rest would remain closed, thus keeping thousands of workers unemployed and generating fewer resources for the local economy.

Compliance with this startup schedule, according to information shared by Paola Rainieri, president of the entity, depends on the conditions of the different markets, the availability of seats on airplanes and the internal situation of the country, both for hotels that They have begun to operate as those that have announced it for the next weeks or months.

The largest offer of rooms at the moment is that of Punta Cana with 10 hotels operating, which have placed 5,783 rooms on the market, out of the 44,000 that this tourist region has, which in the last decade receives more than 60% of tourists. arriving in the country.

There are an estimated 400 accommodation establishments in the country, but not all of them are oriented or have the conditions for the international tourism market.

The tourist offer has more than 83 thousand rooms, but currently only 95 have announced their opening, at different times during the July-December period. The occupancy of the available rooms does not exceed 10%.

ducketts

Interesting.

Are the ownership & rentals of condos & villas included in these figures?

planner

Maybe included in the 83,000 room number but nowhere else.  The condo,  villa,  air bnb market is often hard to quantify.

Italy prohibits the entry of people traveling from the Dominican Republic

https://www.diariolibre.com/actualidad/ … DA20026005

'ducketts' this is a warning of how bad the situation developing in DR is seen globally and in particular in Europe.

Time to fly is now before other countries do the same.

You only have to look at the spread of the cases around the country and the positivity and number of tests to realize this is not just about the capital it is about the whole of DR. The capital may have 60% of the cases but it also has 80% of the tests. 40% of the cases come from 20% of the tests and that say it all.

planner

Absolutely true and well said Lennox!
