Morocco closed the borders due to Covid-19, but for how long?

Hi all,

Because of the Covid-19 outbreak my plans to travel to Morocco to reunite with my husband, have been postponed until Morocco decides to open its borders again. It's very hard to find any information from here so I would like to ask you  guys for an update - are there any news regarding the lockdown of Moroccan borders?

How is the discussion in news etc going, is it likely that the borders will keep closed after April 18th? My guess (and what I would do if the decision was mine) is that they will keep the flight ban over Ramadan to prevent expat moroccans from hoarding home for celebrations.. but what about after that?

My desperate wish is that they will at least open for necessary travels after Eid, even if it won't be tourism and business as usual. Is this a relevant guess or do you think the border closure will be extended even longer?

RAEzWORLD

It is anyone's guess right now. Morocco is in the beginning stages of the pandemic.

Yes and hopefully people will follow the restrictions and practice social distancing etc so this virus will die out and it never needs to be widely spread in Morocco. I live in Sweden and our government decided to allow the virus to spread, hoping we will get herd immunity. In the beginning of the pandemic they still allowed people to travel for holiday to north Italy and Iran, and didn't even suggest people to stay at home at return - the message was if you're symptom free you can go to work, even people working in elderly care and hospitals. And look where we are now.. They stopped testing anyone who isn't treated in hospital even though you have symptoms and nobody knows how many swedes have already been infected. Oh well, time will tell if this was a good strategy or not. But we all feel like laboratory rabbits here ;)

Is there any discussion in moroccan news and TV about the closed borders, is it likely that they will keep them closed? I am in limbo here, my bags are literally packed and I'm ready to leave the same day the borders are opening again but should I forget about coming to Morocco this month..?

Hello ,
In the news there is nothing about open bondries right now even if we step up from the discover the carriers of the virus from outside the country to morocco now we are in 3rd period where cases are in moroccan famillies and citizens that affected at first two period from foreigns and from the cases who get infected from foreigns .
they said that the lockdown will be from 20 march to 20 april in hope that they will controll the panademic but now we are reach to 1431 cases so i guess it will not stop at 20 april they will make it more long .
i hope things will be fine soon and about you coming here this month its look impossible just waiting after that or untill they open the bondries .

Queenjani

Thank you, yes I hope after Ramadan there will be possibility for at least necessary travels. I'm not coming as a tourist, I'm coming to stay with my husband and I will put myself in quarantine immediately on arrival (I am isolating myself already at home, here people are crazy - bars and parks are packed with people and they say at least 10-20% of people in Stockholm are infected already, which is probably an understatement) I don't want to be responsible for bringing any virus to Morocco or to my husband's family either. Feels like Morocco is a much safer place to be at the moment.

Yes it's typical the virus spreads within family, children are carrying it and infecting grandparents. Please stay safe people! Most important is to practice social distancing - always keep minimum 1-2 meters to everyone even family members at least the elderly and with underlying diseases. Avoid crowded places, public transport and shops etc, go shopping when it's less crowded, wear a mask, wash your hands... stop the virus from spreading so they will open the borders so I can meet my baby again! Do it for me - pleease! 😁

😁😁 i will do that and  all moroccan to make you be soon with your love .
there is lot of moroccan citizens out of morocco they want to enter but still lockdown even some traveled to spain as a tourist and they stuck there .
moroccan now have sensitive feeling toward all foreigns so if they open boundries and yoy come to your husband house you will get a weird scared face look at you and all neighbours will spear the talk about you as a virus haha . you need to bring a certificat medical that your body negative from covid 19 ...
anyway i wish everything will be fine and welcome to morocco when you come .

Let’s say the border is open during or after Ramadan and I can go out to stamp my Passport.
Do I need a certificate to prove that I am free of Covid 19 to re-enter?
I own a couple houses in Morocco but not a holder of Moroccan Residency Card.

After they test your body if postive or negative from covid 19  i guess you will stay under medical supervision for 14 days then you can go to your house thats what they did at first with the foreigns in last days before  the lockdown .

Hi there

You are asking questions that NOBODY but God can answer.

There no country that knows WHEN it will open its borders and or if WHEN it will be business as usual.  To protect your health and every citizen in the world, we all have to listen, isolate and stay inside.

This means we can NOT travel for any reason. Until each country has full control of the coronavirus and medical experts have stopped it from spreading, we ALL have to PATIENT.

There are people dying all over the world from this disease and their families are NOT allowed to be with them or bury them.  You can imagine how heartbreaking and difficult it is.

Last week, a friend of mine lost his brother in New York from heart attack.  I was very sad for him because I could feel his pain. He can not fly to New York because everywhere has closed the borders.  A local mosque with volunteers in New York has buried so many people alone without any of their families.  You can imagine what these families are going through.

If we are going to succeed and beat this disease which is killing thousands around the world, we must be PATIENT, listen to health experts and your local governments.  Do NOT rush to travel for your sake and every one around you.

Have a blessed day,

Ali

Hopefully they will keep borders closed through the summer. And until after Eid UL Adha.
Morocco have the right policies and are doing well. I'm sure they will not be pressed to open not for any reason. They're a rich democracy they can survive. Now they have strengthened links with UK so added support for each other during this crisis. Moroccans are democrats, they are not cryptocrats Alhamdolilleh

Well said keeping the borders close keeps the VIRUS out to foreigners  New Zealand and Australia borders are closed for international flights

GuestPoster323

Hi information I have is that they are not in any hurry to open the borders
So it's just a waiting game until the Government decides to declare the borders to reopen

The King  is opening the borders this month but only to Moroccan residents who are currently outside Morocco and other residents

I think he will open fully late August
