I'm please to meet some who want to follow that tradition and to honor "Legio patria nostra"

Unfortunately, there are no tips. Just "courage and will".

Strictly speaking, you could already get closer to one of the operational bases of the foreign legion in Africa. They may be able to help you. They are located at:
N'Djaména (Chad), Niamey (Niger), Gao (Mali), Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso).

And with a little luck, one day perhaps, you will have the honor to wear the white kepi.

Useless answer because it's clearly written on foreign legion website that you should not expect assistance from embassy/consulate.

The Foreign Legion does not carry out any administrative procedure with a view to obtaining a visa or a residence permit for France
