Expatriation to Portugal: border updates

Post new topic

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

in Portugal as elsewhere, the current pandemic has changed our way of life but also our mobility, due to the state of borders of nearby countries or countries we wanted to visit.

Today we would like to take stock of the current border situation in Portugal and collect your testimonies, whether you are already an expat there or still preparing your move.

Is the country currently accessible to newcomers?

Have quarantine measures been put in place? If so, what are they?

What about leaving the territory as an expat resident? Will you be able to easily reach Portugal if you leave it temporarily?

How does the current borders state impact you, whether you are already an expatriate in Portugal or are planning to move there soon?

Do you have some visibility about the future of borders in your country of expatriation, in the longer or shorter term?

Thank you in advance for your contribution :)

Hi Everybody,

Just recently, 1. Sept. 2020 I moved from Spain, Costa del Sol, Malaga to Portugal and experienced absolutely no problems. Although the Spanish Government just forced more restrictions on the people of Andalusia. I drove twice the beginning of September to Spain and returned to Portugal within days and the border was always open. No quarantine requirements. All I noticed was that upon entry into Portugal foreigners have to pay an additional 'highway tax' of about EU 10,00.

Good Luck to all of you !

Loving Portugal, the people, the wine, the food, the castles, the museums, cities.....
