Hi, my wife and I have already bought an apartment in Lisbon (Campo do Ourique/Amoreiras) and gotten our residence permit. We will be retiring there in the next several months from New York City.
We wilol be purchasing private health insurance through our Portuguese bank and have trying to arrange our doctors etc. before we get there as my wife has several medical conditions and we would like the transition to be as smooth as possible. I have identified one clinic in central Lisbon but have been having trouble getting a response from them. Is there anyone we can angage to help us through this process? Thanks!
Hello I am from India. I am a software developer and want to register myself as a freelancer in Portugual.
I have applied for NIF number using bordr.
I need help with a tax representative who will register my profile on the Financas as a freelancer and will handle all my taxes.
Anyone help.
Greetings,
I hope this finds everyone in their best of their health under current times. I would love to chat and get to know people.
Have a lovely day.
Lovely to see a fellow Indian. I am curious what is the scope regarding jobs in Portugal. Being a software developer is by default in demand is it not?
Hope you are staying safe.
Scope of job is crap. I am taking my odds hoping for remote work from Indian company. Till I find any better.

Hi Blendcables,
If you already have a NIF, you can contact any accountant in Portugal who does this kind of work. Issues related to social security, for example, you can do it by yourself, or you can request the help of a solicitor.

Are you currently working in India or Portugal?
Also how bad the scope is? does having experience helps in getting a job?
Take care.
Hello Friends! My husband, daughter and I moved to Portugal in November 2020. We recently settled on a home in Santo Isidoro, Mafra, Ericeira area. We are so happy to be living here! We moved here from California. I am interested in meeting new friends, learning and offering any help with what we have learned so far.
Good afternoon everybody! My name is Walter, I am planning to move to Portugal sometime next year from Asia (Portugal will be my 8th country...), I am very excited. I am retired, and will visit Portugal toward the end of the year to start looking at properties. Thank you already for your responses to some of my questions in future, I am sure I will have a few...
Hi everyone!
Thanks for having me. What a trip the last 18 months have been huh? Lots of time for reflection and re-evaluating.
I'm interested in learning more about moving abroad it's something I've thought about for a long time. I'd like to start making plans for my new future. I'm an aspiring writer and I need a quiet space to continue on my journey.
Kind Regards
Yvonne
Hello,
What do you have in mind as far as geography ? Europe or outside Europe ?
What is your nationality if I may ask ?
Julia
Good afternoon,
Can I ask, why did you pick Portugal ? And in which area are you planning on buying a property ? South of Portugal, North, Center ? Which country in Asia are you coming from ?
Julia
I really don't care where I go once the sun shines, the beach is near and I have peace and the freedom to express myself.

Hi all, we're a Dutch family with two pre-teens who are considering Portugal. We spent seven years in Dubai and can't really appreciate being back in the Netherlands anymore.
Was wondering whether people prefer Lisbon or Porto - also considering quality and fees of good schools. Thanks!
it all depends on what you are looking for and want to do in Portugal. Lisbon is more developed and has a more varied offer and also has more sun. However, in the opinion of some, Porto has a better quality of life.
Hello everyone,
I've been living here a while (5 years). I've signed up to this site as I'm going to be searching info on house renovations - mainly the paperwork procedures and some recommendations for tradespeople and suppliers.
Thanks
Hi, I am a Lebanese guy 55 years old looking forward to find a way to move to Portugal and i am considering the d7 visa option. i am trying to get some info from lebanese expat regarding the:
1- best places around lisbon or in lisbon to stay in i.e. to rent in a lovely neighborhood.
2- health system access. is it easy to access or we should wait months to get an appointment or to do an exam?...
3- if we do not master the language; how to get info regarding everything, are people friendly? do they speak english?
A lot of questions in my head which i will definitly get back to it later on.
Thanks
Hi Abharfouche, Welcome
These issues have already been discussed in this forum. You can use the search facility (top right corner) and search by keywords, such as: D7 visa, health care system, ... If you don't find what you want, please open a new topic with a specific subject to make it easier to answer.

Hi everyone! I’m Joy from TX. My husband and I along with my mom, and our best friend are looking to retire in Portugal in about 2 years. I’m the one that does all of the research and preparation work. My husband is 10 years older than me, and has been pushing me to figure out a way for us to retire. My mom is retired, always looking for adventure, and tired of me working all the time. And our best friend is retired US military. I have been looking into Portugal for almost a year now, and we have our first visit scheduled for late August. We are very excited to get boots on the ground, and experience what we hope to be our retirement location.
Nice meeting you.
Julia
Hello,
My wife, Deborah, and myself (David), in our early 60's, are seriously exploring retiring in Porto, Portugal from Portland, Oregon (US)
Not because we like the letter P, but more for financial, social, political, environmental, creative, and every other reason that matters. Portugal just seems a better place to live, especially as a retiree, while the US becomes more divided, intolerant, violent, dysfunctional and trivial.
We are both artists - I am a musician (performer & composer), and she is a tapestry artist. Neither of us have been able to pursue our creative desires while we have both had to work full-time. We are both community-minded and look forward to contributing to our new home when we move.
Our first step will be to visit for a month, to explore on the ground and confirm everything I've researched.
If we like it, our next plan is to live in Portugal for a year. At the moment, we're leaning towards VIia Nova de Gaia, for a variety of reasons.
Then, if we fall in love with a new home, we'll move permanently.
I will soon be an EU citizen (Austria), so that will make our move easier.
We are both US born but grew up in Israel, before meeting in Jerusalem, marrying, and moving back to the US 40 years ago.
That's it in a rather large, cracked nutshell.
Hello all, I'm a freelancer from Nepal looking to relocated to Portugal on the D7 visa.
I'm looking for tips/lawyers/consultants to help with the application process through VFS Global in India (which is the closest Portuguese Embassy for me).
Nice to meet you all,
Dikshant
Hi Dikshant,
You should contact the Portuguese embassy in New Delhi. Visa requirements may differ between embassies. First, try to find out what is required.

I am a well trained teacher. I have worked for long but in Africa. I have never been to Europe at all. I have the desire to visit and if possible stay in Portugal. I would like to work as well as visit some interesting place in Portugal.
I am attracted to fruit picking and to learn the language in a relaxed place. I will be happy to know the procedures.
Christine
You could not have picked a better place to retire!. Portugal has everything, weather, beautiful countryside, probably the lowest crime rate in Europe and most importantly, people who are welcoming and friendly. I moved here 14 years ago having retired from the airline industry, a job that took me to over 64 countries worldwide and Portugal is best by far. After living in the US, you will think you have moved to paradice!
Hi
My name is Antonio I am 55 years old and I am a qualified Motor Mechanic and I have always been involved in the Automotive industry, which includes being involved in Mechanical Warranties (Mechanical Insurance) for everything that has an engine for many years.
I was born in Portugal, but my parents moved to Africa when I was 4 years old. I have decided that it is time to come home and I arrived back in Portugal on the 03 July 2021.
I am glad to be home and excited in making a new life here.
My family of four is moving to Portugal next week! We're so excited to finally be there after a year of planning.
Hello, my Wife and I are both retired and have decided to travel the world! We were planning on Phuket Thailand, as our 1st adventure, but due to COVID issues there, we decided to put that adventure, on the back burner, for now. Portugal was our 2nd choice and will begin our journey, in October. As I understand, the “normal” travel visa is for 90 days and afterwards, you must travel to a non-Shengen country, for 90 days. We’re looking forward to our visit, but I was curious about a different visa, in order to stay longer. I thank you all, in advance, for any suggestions or tips.
Hi EdEvans,
Types of visas are as follows:
Source 1. Foreign Affairs Department
Temporary Stay (less than 1 year)
Residency (more than 1 year)

Source 2. SEF - Foreigners and Borders Service
