Just wondering where people live?

I'm considering studying in Singapore after my few years in the middles east and I was just wondering, where does everyone live?

Do you expats live in suburbs like Simei and Tampines? Do you have friends you stay with? Where do they live? And what about condos?

Also, would it be better to live on campus than in an apartment by yourself? I plan on travelling alone because it's way more fun and free :D

Thanks for any info

Hey Ashlee,
Welcome to the blog. Most of the expats prefer to stay in HDBs here as these are cheaper than condos...

Rents are high here, 3 times more than that in SA. I was in Dammam around 2 years and I can compare the house rents :)

Condos are nice but the rent will be 2 times more than that of HDBs. Most expats use to share the complete flat/unit with other mates, as the rent can be shared and you will have company to get rid of your boredom/loneliness.

Hit Google for more info
Good luck.

Hi There,

It's true, the private condos can be quite expensive though lots of students (especially grad students) live in them and there's a very wide range of prices within that category. I've never met any Expats who live in HDBs. Foreigners are not allowed to own them but I guess if someone rents one out it's possible to stay in one. There's quite a range in the level of comfort in the HDBs, they go from low income housing right up to executive flats.

You'd probably want to arrive and look around and see some places before deciding on where you want to be. As for neighborhoods, expats are all over the place. Do you want to be in a neighbourhood that's mostly Singaporean or do you like being around more of a mix of Europeans, Aussies and Kiwis? Do you want to be able to walk to pubs and places to hang out or do you just plan to commute home to sleep (and save some $$)? I can suggest some really popular expat areas with a lot of walkable pubs and shops but they might be far from your campus/an or the more expensive end of the market.

Cheers!

Sorry for the really late reply!

It sounds amazing, I'd love to live anywhere in Singapore hahah! I, myself, am a Kiwi but I'm living abroad at the moment. I plan to travel somewhere to work and was considering living in Singapore for a few months but I've heard its quite expensive to live there even if you have a good job. It's definitely still an option. Where are the nicest places for students to live? I'm not fussy at all, I don't really mind fif there's a pub close to me or not but a place that doesn't smash the bank in would be great. A friendly neighborhood preferably. I'm just assuming that you live there so what areas would you recommend for students?

Edit: I'm planning quite far ahead of myself here though, haven't even graduated highschool -.- but I'd still love to have this information. Thanks for the replies, guys!
