UF!   some days I cant remember if I got up the day before or not... oh well!

Happy to say I just bought my home away from home in Guayacanes on the beach!

Questions ya'll... and NOT in order of importance

1)  is blue barrel shipping still available and details please...
shipping from USA (Miami or Texas Port) best shipper?  pricing?

2)  I have read on here about bringing in items in suitcases?
what is the process in claiming the items to customs??

I brought Christmas gifts once (about $400US) in luggage and was singled out by customs agent.  Asked me to open it and how much was there?  Asked how much money I was carrying and to show him.. held out 2 fingers and asked for $200 dollars... WHAT! I said no way!  I would show him my receipts (I had with me but in another piece of luggage).  I finally threw down $40 and he took it and let me go.  I do NOT want that to happen again...

how best is it to not have this problem EXPERIENCE again?

As in when should you claim what you are bringing in and how much can you bring in without claiming it?

and YES.. I did do something about it.  I called the US embassy on return,  They did assist and I will answer the rest in private.   But will say it was addressed by the Dominican customs.

3) Now that I have purchased property can anyone recommend a "reasonable" cost and way to retain dual citizenship?

4) OK.. I know I can bring in ONE car duty free as a property owner.   Must own it for a year before importing it.  Must not be older than 3 years old.

Question 1)
is there any stipulation on when I can sell it?  Not that I want to,,, just curious.

2)  I collect classic cars.  Is there any way to import one or more of my cars OLDER than 3 years?

FYI ... I also LOCATE new and classic.. hard to find..  discontinued.. obsolete parts for cars and trucks ... and ship them to your freight forwarder of choice (shipping at my cost)

if you have read this far without falling asleep I am surprised

and IF you answer a question I am grateful...

Okay this is full of  bad info.  Let me address what I can:

Yes blue barrels still function.

Buying property  in itself does not grant dual citizenzhip. You must qualify and  get residency.  Residency based on investor status will put you on the path to quick citizenship. I suggest you read the thread on residency.

Residency allows you to bring in a vehicle NOT  property ownership,. there are a bunch of rules attached!  You must own for at least one year and vehicle cannot be older than 5 years.  Yes you can sell it I believe after  3 years but not positive on this rule.

Classic cars have a  set of rules unto themselves.  classic is  25 years old I believe.

Importing  vehicle parts for resale requires a corporation and importing permission. Then the fun starts!

There will be a lot for you to learn honey about  owning a business of any kind here. Its not easy but it can be worth it.

When importing a car with residency, you receive a DISCOUNT on the duty, not full exoneration like you get with household items.

Planner is correct on the three-year ownership requirement with the import of the vehicle.

Contact Lishali (Lily) Baez to discuss residency options that might work for you. She's excellent and if you read through the Residency threads, you'll see glowing recommendations for her from me and quite a few others! She is a class act and knows her stuff! Lily is also a joy to work with!

Thank you for the info.

I was hoping some information will also be here on the Blue Barrel shipping. If anyone's been at lately and if it's still available.

I guess the information I was given about Duty on the car was wrong.

I'll check on that and also contact your referral about residency. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Blue Barrel shipping..... is done by 'mudanzas'

MIA is full of them.... FLA for that matter

The customs agent that hit you up for the $200 was obviously corrupt. Every time I go the USA I buy a cheap $25 suitcase and stuff it full. I've done this probably 20 times and no one at customs has inspected it or asked for receipts. So you were unlucky. I do beleive that things are changing here and the new government is putting forth a big effort to stamp out corruption, but it will take time.

I also collect/restore classic cars and would like to bring a few from the US down here but I haven't looked into it much yet but would like to here how you make out. I've seen very few classics here although a man who lives near me has a 69 Camaro and I saw a hemi-cuda parked in Santo Domingo last year. I've been looking for one to restore here but have found no good prospects yet.

First do you residency?  I can get you the process to bring in classic cars if you are serious.

I will send you a private message
