What struck you about Cyprus?

Post new topic

Cheryl

Hello everybody,

When you first settled in Cyprus, you might have been struck by cultural aspects of life in Cyprus and you might even have anecdotes about your integration here.
We would like you to share with expats-to-be what you discovered once you arrived in Cyprus: customs, traditions, interesting or fun facts etc.

What were the things that surprised you the most after your arrival?

Are there any practices that are particularly out of step with your culture of origin? If so, what are they?

What do you think about them?

Did you get used to these and adopt some of these traditions or norms?

Do you think you would take some of the customs of Cyprus with you if you were to return to your home country or move to another country?

Thank you!

Overall its a nice society and environment to live in a few pros and cons though:

Pros:
Nice Weather.
Friendly people/by and large.
Pretty good roads in the main
Quaint Traditional small villages
Beaches and beautiful sea.
Restaurants reasonable and good food.

Cons:

Bad drivers no manners.
Rubbish/Cleanliness.
poorly constructed houses/ and issues with deeds of property.
Unfinished Apartment blocks left decaying.
Lack of Health and safety during road works and construction.
Ambivalent attitude to fair practise.
A culture of "who you know" and not "what you know" in order to achieve some things.

Sadly I must agree with your list of cons Jake

Cyprus could be so much better if only some people would do the right thing and appreciate what they have
