Hi All.
Came to Vietnam to teach English. Currently starting my second week of quarantine. Can't wait to get out into the real world!

Hey Ford, how'd you manage to get over there? Any advice?

Thanks mate.

A few of the big ESL schools seem able to sponsor people to come in. It's evidently an expensive and  process on behalf of the school for visa and quarantine hotel.  It took me a few months after being accepted for the job until I was able to board a flight to here.

Ahh okay, did you need a bachelor's degree and TEFL training before applying? I want to do the same as you and I'm ready to leave now but I won't have my bachelor's degree officially until June :(

From my understanding, the Vietnamese government requires these documents of any ESL teacher:
1. Bachelor degree, any subject
2. TEFL Certificate
3. Police background check (in the U.S., FBI or state police)

I had to submit copies of those 3 documents to the school when I applied. I don't know if they cut any slack with expected degrees. The school was able to get me a business visa. I will next have to submit those documents to the Vietnamese government within 30 days of entry  to get a work permit.

You can check out the webpages for the major schools (e.g., APAX, Apollo, ILA) and get more details. Likewise, you can email those schools and ask. They have hundreds of teachers and are constantly recruiting from abroad so they should be able to answer your specific questions. I would contact schools now with your questions, ask for an interview and and see if you can get conditional acceptance. The visa process takes longer because of covid and they will have to book a special flight for you because you cannot book a commercial flight from any carrier's website. All this takes extra time.

Which city are you going to teach in?

Hi John:
Not sure yet, but I've asked for an assignment in the south, and outside of the big city.

Hey! Out of interest - what ESL school employed you/sponsored you into Vietnam? Hoping to do the same thing this summer so any advice would be great!
