Extending STVP via sponsor from MOM

Post new topic

bonbonbonbon

Hi everyone!

I am planning to resign from my current job due to personal reason and I understand that MOM will give me a short term pass after my pass is cancelled. However I wish to stay in SG for awhile as I am actually planning to ROM by end of year

Has anyone tried extending their stvp issued by MOM by mentioning that u can provide a sponsor? I have an immediate family and my fiance is an SC.

I know there are a lot of cases whereby tourists can extend their stvp during this covid period for several months, however these are stvp issued by ICA.. I have checked with ICA, bt they mentioned that stvp extension due to pass cancellation is under the purview of MOM.

Will be glad if you all can share your experiences on this! Thanks

That’s correct, it falls under the purview of MoM. The only exception would be if there are no outbound flights (where ICA can review and approve an extension). Or if there is a health related reason owing to which you cannot travel, for which you have to certainly provide documentation evidence.

If none of the two reasons Shekhz mentioned above applies in your case, you will have to get a separate STVP from ICA, or an LTVP/DP from MoM, to stay longer. This is rare and would probably only work if your direct family members (parents, spouse, kids) live here and earn enough to get such a pass for you.
Or you get a new visa/pass on your own merit.

Hi beppi,

Thank you for your reply!

My brother is an SPR here and as mentioned my fiance is an SC.

I see, in that case I hope MOM will refer to me to ICA as ICA seems to be more lenient in giving stvp extension as compared to MOM.

beppi

MoM will not refer you. You will have to contact ICA and apply for a new STVP/LTVP/DP. Processing can take several weeks, so do it early! (And have a plan B in case it is rejected!)

Hi beppi, I have contacted ICA, but they mention that MOM will be the one who will handle my STVP.

I don't think I would be able to apply for DP/LTVP as my ROM will only be scheduled end of the year. Can I clarify if I can use PMLA as a visa to stay in SG? From what I understand it's just an assessment right?

Otherwise, my only option would have to be contacting MOM and explaining my situation after I have resigned.

Hi Shekhz, thank you for your reply!

Unfortunately there are flights to go back to my home country and I don't think I can produce medical reasons either. But thank you for your input :)

beppi

PMLA is not a visa, just an assessment whether you can get a visa after marriage.
You have NO chance of staying until the end of the year based on approval by MoM.
If you have not resigned yet (as your post implies), then don't - or be prepared to return to your country.

Thanks beppi for your advice!

My EP is also currently up for renewal as well. Hopefully they can renew it as well so I will have the option to stay if I didn't choose to resign

Just curious, can I actually check renewal process from the EP status online, just like new EP application?

Shekhz

No, the renewal status isn’t on EP Online, or any other similar portal- to my knowledge

To reply on iCA and MOM issue, I am in the midst of trying to extend my STVP with MOM and I already submitted my student visa application with ICA since my master degree starts in July but I must tell you, it really really difficult to get extension from MOM and yes ICA cannot help (even they try to.)  Even my previous company helped submit and called MOM they are not willing to listen to the reason at all (In fact when they responded and rejected the application for extension the first time round, they even got our reasoning wrong...)  So please hold on to your EP first if you still unsure of anything to avoid all the trouble!  Its really nerve wracking and they won't reply you until literally 1 day before STVP expires.... Dont want anyone to suffer like I am currently experiencing

Replying 1 day ago seems to be proven tactics  :D

Hi Shekhz, thanks for the info!!

Hi 3939, that's for the advice as well. Hopefully your student pass will get approved soon. All the best :)
