Shopping at Landers I hit the big five on my wish list.

Three pack of Cigars, Pepperoni Combos, V-8 Vegetable Juice, Klondike Ice Cream Bars and Rotisserie Chickens.

It's been over a year since our last trip to Landers, with our weekly shopping at S&R. I can say this about Landers, the store has change to more of my liking. Bigger selection of food products, wider aisles, good selection of fresh meat and vegetables. Rotisserie Chicken is roasted in house, good as Sam's Club or Costco but smaller, so had to buy two.

For you Aussie's big selection of Fresh Beef.

We don't have a Landers in our area. Only S&R. S&R was great the first time they opened. But now, I am not happy with S&R. In the last 2-3 years, the quality of some of their products which I buy often went down.

First, they used to have 1/3 pounder burger. Now they have a quarter pounder divided into 2 patties and a single patty burger. And for me, they don't taste as good as they used to.

Second, the ham in their Hawaiian pizza was replaced with bacon. We stopped buying that pizza. Now, we just buy cheese pizza, add toppings, pop it in the oven for a few minutes.

Third, eggs we bought were old. We bought a tray (30 eggs), cooked 3 eggs. All three eggs tasted bitter. Tossed those. Cooked 2 more, and they also tasted bitter. So we tossed out the rest. Recently we bought a dozen Bounty Fresh Large Eggs. Two were bad. So, we don't buy eggs there anymore.

Fourth, ground pork might be old. My parent said they bought pre-packed ground pork and turned it into embotido . They used the same spices, seasonings, but It tasted bitter.

Fifth, in the pack of chicken drumsticks (pre-packed in a white opaque tray), only the ones on top are thick. The ones at the bottom (you can't see these from the top) are thin with less meat than the ones on the top. So I stopped buying.

Sixth, veggies and fruit are too expensive and, from our experience, they go bad quicker than the ones bought from the fruit and veggie vendors.

Yes, I agree with you, they are going downhill, I think they buy old stock for cheap, lots of times the expiration date of their products is near expiration. An example Juice, expiration date is several years out when produced but at Landers it's a few months away.

Last time I had moldy  French Baguettes.

My wife won't buy eggs, fruit and veggies from S&R, she also buys them from local vendors.

Lately we've been getting our Pizza from Green Hills. You could have a room full of people and ask where should we get pizza from and you would get many answers.

When I mentioned for Aussies a big selection of fresh beef on my original post, I left out the most important part, It's from Australia

We like Landers. Nice and clean, decent variety. There is one in Cebu, and they give you a discount on gas also, so she always fills the car at the same time.

Never heard of Landers, I guess they will arrive in Cagayan De Oro eventually.

As far as eggs go, I have stopped buying in the supermarkets. I go with a bottle of water and a cup to the local egg seller and check the eggs before l put them in the carton. Good/fresh eggs lay on the bottom,  not so fresh stand up on the bottom (use straight away) and stale/off eggs float. Usually go through 20-30 eggs to get a dozen.
Hope this simple method helps.

Looks like Lander's is doing much better than S&R lately.

Wow. . .My wife also stopped buy eggs at the supermarkets, but she hasn't learned the trick of the water and cup.

My only experience in buying eggs was in the states. Eggs sold in supermarkets are refrigerated, sold by size and dated. I always bought Jumbo eggs. Also the eggs in the states seem to have larger yolks and smaller whites than the eggs in the Philippines.
