Pension Requirements

Post new topic

Anyone able to confirm if there is an age requirement for the pension visa?  I read some sources claiming age 60.  However, most only mentioned the income requirements (USD $2000).  I also know some countries do have an age requirement for pension visas.  Any comment on experience or knowledge of Brazil's?

Thanks!

I see that age limit in third-party advice in English, but I haven't been able to find it any authoritative document from the Brazilian Government, in either Portuguese or English.

The new renewable temporary visa for retirees was established in late 2019 under the heading of VITEM XIV, Brazilian Immigration Policy, a catch-all visa category.  The previous permanent visa was abolished in the general overhaul of the immigration laws in 2017, so any information on this subject prior to 2019 is obsolete.  The current visa is still new enough that many offices aren't familiar with it.

The only Brazilian Consulates in the United States that have updated their websites for this visa are the ones in Boston and Washington.  Here's the info from Boston (Washington is identical); as you'll see, there's no reference to age:

I'm not able to find an updated reference at the Ministry of Justice, so I can't tell you what rules the Federal Police are following.

The current legislation, which also doesn't address age, appears here, in Portuguese:

My suggestion would be to contact the Brazilian Consulate responsible for the region where you live (for Kansas, that would be Houston), tell them that you are interested in applying for residency as a retiree under Normative Resolution No. 40 of October 2, 2019, and ask them what the requirements are.
