QUARANTINE TIME

I have been thinking of traveling to the Philippines and expect to be quarantined for a few days (with or without a Covid-19 vaccine) and get a swab test.  But why is the quarantine time averaging 10 to 15 days? Does it take that long to get the test results back? That is way too long to be quarantine and it's running about 5,000 pesos a day to stay in these hotels, with food as separate expenses.

:D Because thats the rules, simple you don't like the rules best not to go. :D

Fake false positive PCR tests are lucrative, especially for quarantine hotels.

Aeta Tribe

That's why I'm not going. There are other tropical places in the world where my money would be better spent.

Aeta Tribe

Exactly!

Perhaps because it take time to know for sure if not ill/carry  :)

Aeta Tribe

If that's the case, then make it affordable for the tourists and "Balkibayans" to put up with their quarantine restrictions in these hotels, instead of milking them of their money and putting a bad taste in their experience of traveling there.  Everyone is suffering from the pandemic; let's not add to the dilemma.

FortuneFavorsTheBold

It's the culture. A bird in hand.......taken to the n'th degree. They would rather make 50,000 pesos from a fake false positive test and Hotel stay than hundreds of thousands of pesos in the long term. You can't change the culture. The Bahamas and Belize are nice.

Aeta Tribe

There is a popular term used among Filipinos on their own people with those kind of attitude that you've described, who they perceived as taking advantage of others for a gain regardless of how it affects everyone around them:

One Day Millionaire Mentality

You are describing a SELF LICKING ICE CREAM CONE exclusive to the Philippines.

FortuneFavorsTheBold

Filipinos will tell you themselves that most Filipinos will get some money, drink a bunch of San Mig Light, and then the next day will sit at home saying I have no money and I have no food.

Instead of landing tourists in Manila or Cebu CITIES qurantined in BOOOORING hotel rooms,
why not land them at empty beach tourist places and quarantine them there spread at beaches...  :)
or close to some other nice nature.

(Compare:  My old mother can walk around in nice nature, without other problems than she cant go shoping. (But relatives buy and deliver food to her enough distanced.)

GuestPoster565

Also if anyone is planning on a 10 day quarantine stay at a hotel bring extra food. I stayed at the manilla Red Planet back in February.  No ordering of food allowed. They provided for a fee 3 meals a day. It was barely enough to keep u alive. No drinks also just water they provide in gallon container. Luckily i brought extra food . Granola bars big can of mixed nuts and vienna, sausages. And also bring toilet paper. Only 1 small role 4 the 7 days. Was told because of covid they had limited supply lmfao. You will learn if u stay here in the Philippines.  They are continuously blowing smoke up ur hinney. Lol

A succinct summing up of the Filipino mentality. Which is why this country will underperform its peers in Asia for the forseeable future

Exactly!!!

Aeta Tribe

Couldn't agree with you more on the Philippines underperforming its Asian peers.  I blame that on the Colonial and Crab Mentalities of the people.

carlisom78

I can think of two possible reasons for a 10-15 day quarantine. 1. They believe that the incubation period for the virus is 10-14 days. Or, 2. They are using a test that requires time to grow a culture if the virus is present in a person.

capricornrising

Sounds feasible!

Or, 3. Fake false positive test results generate money for quarantine hotels who are giving kickbacks to the labs.

capricornrising

The third one is possible. Kickbacks are widespread especially in prominent areas like the medical profession. Doctors get kickbacks for all the meds they subscribe when diet and exercise will fix the problem. They dont tell you that in the doctors office when they take your blood pressure and because of whitecoat hypertension you have high blood pressure so first thing do they put you on meds. I had this happen to me here where I live about a year and a half ago. Had whitecoat hypertension and Doc put me on 3 different meds. After about 2 weeks I thought  was gonna die with all the aches and pains. I went online and researched the meds and they were the cause. I further researched online and watched you tube videos and the meds I was taking are more likely to kill me than save me as extensive research has been done on them to confirm that and of course the Doc isnt gonna tell you to start an exercise program and change my diet and take supplements like apple cider vinegar, turmeric, ginger, flaxseed, garlic and eat sardines and tuna fish 3-4 times a week, nuts and seeds are good chia and sesame,-no more pork or beef and just a little chicken once in a while, no bread and brown and black rice is best, no cerials, cakes, pies and basically no sugar food. No milk and better is tofu. Also green tea is great with honey.(Kunti lan)(No junk food Mcdonalds-Jollybees  KFC ect ect My only dairy are quail eggs as they have only good cholesterol. Docs wont tell you because you wont buy their expensive meds and wont get their kickback. Same in America as the Doc put me on meds that messed up my love life  at the age of 47. Was on the meds until I hit Philippines and found an honest Doc that told me to stop taking the meds I was taking. That I didnt need them. That helped quite a bit but the damage has already been done. Over a year ago I put myself on a strict diet and exercised 3-5 times a week walking slow-jog 40 mins a day and cholesterol went from 236 down to 97 total cholesterol and 85 of the 97 was HDL or good cholesterol. A good cholesterol is 100 plus your age so mine is excellent. I will get my 6 month blood tests done in a few weeks and see how its doing. My blood pressure this morning was 107 over 65.Same at night. Its really sad because I do believe that  medical doctors  are TAUGHT to prescribe drugs when you dont need them and a healthy diet and  regular non strenuous exercise will fix most problems. This is the world we live in. HMMMM

Returning

Totally true!! I had the same experiences in Germany. Only by educating myself, I was able to rescue myself from growing dependency on the pharma industry and their drug dealers (so-called 'doctors'), until an early death.

capricornrising

Returning-I have found an abundance of of health info on you tube. Many certified doctors have explained in detail all the things I stated in my last message that you responded to. They are NOT getting paid to tell the truth for the only money they receive is from getting a certain  number of subscribers and at the same time they are educating the  public duped by the medical profession. I have been taking FLAXEED granules(Buy them whole and grind up in a blender-be sure to keep in fridge after) and capsules for about 2 years now. Its a wonderful blood thinner but the Docs wanna put you on a blood thinning medication so you will get addicted to them. Take them or die. Doctors are sneaky about convincing the general public to take the medication. Statins do more harm than good. Meds are expensive in some cases and exercise is free. Couple that with a decent diet and we sure dont need to take medication that could be harmful. Here's a list of GOOD stuff. Apple cider vinegar-turmeric same as curry but better and be sure to use 2 teaspoons turmeric to 1 teaspoon of black powder) 2-3 times a day. "Extra virgin" olive oil a swig in the morning and chase it with a shot of lemon juice, Do the same before bed. Don't squeeze the lemons. What a waste! Take the whole lemon and cut it up into small pieces-put in a blender and add about 1/2-l liter of water and blend. You will get much, much more lemon juice. Why waste it by just squeezing it and throwing it away? Wasteful and unnecessary. Remember to watch some health videos on you  tube. Lets give the Doctors a break/vacation.

I've always lived a mostly healthy lifestyle but I put on some pounds during the lockdown. I'm 5' 11" and I let my weight get up to 212 lbs. and blood pressure was pre-hypertension. The people I know who have lost weight did it by walking so that's what I decided to do. It is 1/4 mile around my Georgia property and I do 10 laps before dawn and usually end up walking 5 or 6 miles each day. For breakfast I have an oatmeal and strawberry or blueberry smoothie with 1/2 an avacado mashed up on Jewish rye toast. I eat a normal lunch and a kale, carrot and green apple smoothie with some orange slices and half a banana for my 3rd meal. My weight this morning is 180.4, lost over 30 lbs since January. I had my physical in April for my 13a visa and blood pressure was down to 110 over 70, and I was still around 190 lbs at that time. I'm 69 and my mom just passed a year ago at 101, my dad was a coal miner and died of black lung disease at 93. Oh yeah, forgot to add that I stopped drinking beer also. I know my photo shows me holding up a beer in a bar in St. Croix but that is just a reminder of the changes I've made. Our property on Biliran Island has coconut, mango, guava, miracle fruit, jack fruit, pineapple, avacado etc. and one of the balikbayan boxes I sent contains a disassembled rototiller so I can continue to raise organic vegies. My wife and her mother are gardening fanatics so I'll till the soil and turn them loose.

You still must be in the states.

Jewish Rye with seeds my favorite, also Rye Bagels with creme cheese, lox (smoked salmon),  and a thin slice of sweet onion.

Returning

capricornrising, thanks for the info. One good source of health info, I get, is from Dr. Gary Null, he's on PRN with his daily health show, at noon EST, and you can listen to him on podcasts, as well.

capricornrising

MoonDog-Sounds like youre doing great. My blood pressure this morning was about 105/65 and same at night and hasnt been over 120 for a long time. Its at its highest afternoon 1-3 or 4 pm. It is lower in the am and ascends and peaks in the afternoon and goes back down at night. Buy yourself an OMRON HEM 7121 blood pressure monitor(same one they had at the doctors office) for the arm not he wrist or finger-arm only. Dont take it just after getting up outta bed in the morn. Wait about 10 mins. At night before bed is ok hour or 2 after dinner. The walking is good but you might try walking-slow jog like I do. Your RHB resting heartbeat should be about 70-75 unless youre athletic like I was for many . many years when I was younger and involved in martial arts 10 years + 4-5 days a week and even taught it for a few years.  I still lift light weights and do isometrics and of course the walk-slow jog 3-5 times a week for about 40 minutes each time. I have a condition called Bradycardia where my   resting heart beat is 49-59 but may go as low as 45. I take my resting heart beat and if its say 57 when I am walk-jogging I try to double it to  115 beats per minute. That gives the heart a good workout with out overdoing it. I dont go over 120 beats a minute. If you are huffing and puffing while running youre going to fast. This is verified by a holistic doctor and former marathon decathlete runner in the Olympics  about 20 years ago. Dr Eckberg. You can watch him on youtube. This guy is a vast storehouse of information on diet and how the body works. If you take flaxseed, a natural blood thinner, it will help keep the blood pressure down. The oatmeal daily will also keep your cholesterol down. My TOTAL cholesterol went from 236 way down to 97 in just 10 months from eating oatmeal everyday. 85 of the 97 was/is HDL good cholesterol so I have no worries there. The body makes cholesterol when we need it so no worry about not having enough. Diet and exercise is definitely the key to good health and not all the meds Doctors wanna prescribe. I am monitoring  myself and getting blood tests done every  6 months to see how everything is coming along. The Doc cut my simvastatin from 20mgs a night to 10 mgs and I will see next month if he can cut the 10 to 5mgs. Statins can do more harm than good and thats also been confirmed by Doctors on youtube which your local doc may deny.I quit drinking 2 years ago and dont smoke and that also helps a ton.Sorry for the rambling. Just wanna get the message out"We are what we eat" By the way-try to cut all SUGAR out in your diet. ANY kind of sweet stuff turns into glucose raises insulin and insulin resistance develops and everyone who has a few spare tires around their midsection has got insulin resistance. I guarantee it!

Moon Dog

Still in the states, settlement on house is July 20 and departure date is July 22. I alternate between Jewish rye and pumpernickel rye. I stuck a sack of ground flax seed in a BB box for bread making. I'm going to teach a couple nieces and/or nephews on the fine art of bread making.

capricornrising

Thanks Returning I may check him out. I have watched a half dozen certified  doctors/physical

therapists on you tube and they all seem to know what they are talking about. Have helped me out a lot

and its free advice. Health and nutrition has been my focus and will continue to be. I will check out your

guy. He may even be on you tube.

Good job, you read about controlling blood pressure and cholesterol with diet and exercise and it can be done, and really not that hard. The nurse that took my blood pressure used the old fashioned hand pumped cuff.

Here's something that may or may not be related to my past 6 months of largely raw plant based diet. I had a hemorrhoid and also an ear infection that I could not get rid of with any over the counter treatment. I was going to have both of those issues looked at before leaving the states but both maladies just went away. Who knows?

capricornrising

Moondog-Thats great, WHOLE flaxseed is better in the shell and grind it in a blender into granules

before using it. Reason is it must be refrigerated after its in powder form to keep its effectiveness. Its

kinda like  Turmreric wont work well if at all unless you have a 2 to 1 ration Turmeric to black

powder(Pepperine).Turmeric(weaker form is curry) mixed with apple cider vinegar  is a wonder

drug(natural) taken 2-3 times a day. You would be surprised at all the benefits of apple cider vinegar

and Turmeric.

capricornrising

MoonDog- When you go see the Doc ask them to wait 5-10 mins in your office before they take your

blood pressure and again before you leave. Your BP will naturally be higher when you arrive at the Dr

office because of something called "Whitecoat hypertension" You can look that up online to see what

that is if you dont already know. Also it might be worth your time to get checked for your maladies

before you leave the states. Better to be safe than sorry!

We arrived last week, doing the exciting quarantine stay now. Our hotel also would not allow outside food until my wife talked to them and told them our kids don't like the food. Now we are allowed outside food. Sister in law brought a few grocery bags over and I ordered via food panda yesterday. And the hotels are ridiculously expensive especially with having to get 2 rooms.

pilotdrh

So all of our tests were negative and we get to leave the hotel tomorrow. That will be 9 nights in the hotel for 2 rooms. That is what I originally booked but then the airline said we had to have 10 nights booked or they couldn't let us on the plane. Of course it doesn't matter that they are wrong. Eventually my wife had her sister in law contact the hotel and extend us by a day as we could not get them to answer the phone. But this was after my wife had the airline give her a waiver form to sign, which I would have done in the first place if I'd known they had that. This was Korean Airlines. Our first flight was Delta and once again they insisted that we had to have a neg test before the flight. They finally called someone and were straightened out.

Lotus Eater

Out of curiosity do you mind telling this forum how much you were charged per room for your quarantine hotel stay?

pilotdrh

No problem. We stayed at the Astoria Greenbelt in Makati. When you check the list of approved hotels almost all are booked up. I reserved what is supposed to be the Prestige Room although both rooms were not the same. One room had 2 double beds and 1 had a queen. With "discounts" the price was Php 4,617 per night each for a total of Php 92,340, breakfast included. At least they were adjoining rooms  ;) but it would have been nice to have a window. Internet was acceptable, their cable sucks, good thing I brought 2 Fire sticks. We're moving on to Taguig this morning for a few weeks before making our final move to Lipa.  Have a good day.
