Hi. The best place to get update infomation is to reach out to your embassy incase any process and documents have changed. However below is a list of what is required for Canadian citizen who wish to marry in Morocco.

Some documents can be obtained from your embassy in morocco however some will be required before you arrive. All
Documents should be translated to Arabic. And must not exceed 3 months from issuance date

Local documents such as local morccan police record and local medical certificate can be obtained within morocco once you get here.

I hope the info helps but please once again double check with your Embassy or ask your fiancé’s to check withy he marriage courts for the most upto date documents required for Canada citizen.

Documents a Canadian Citizen Needs to Marry in Morocco

Note:  These are Moroccan Government requirements, thus all documents not in Arabic must be translated into Arabic.

A completed Affidavit of Nationality and Eligibility to Marry. This certificate must be issued by the Canadian Embassy in Morocco, located in Rabat. Please note that this document is only valid for 1 month.
To obtain a certificate of non-impediment to marriage issued at the Canadian Embassy in Rabat, Canadian citizens are now required to produce a sworn statement in French before a lawyer, notary or judge in Canada containing the following information:
Surname;
Given name;
Date of birth;
Place of birth;
Address (in Canada);
Marital status of the applicant;
Canadian passport number or birth certificate number;
A paragraph certifying that the Canadian citizen assumes complete responsibility for his/her future spouse for a prospective stay in Canada.

Information on the future spouse:

Surname;
Given name;
Date of birth;
Address;
Identification card number.
If the Canadian citizen is already in Morocco, he or she can complete this procedure before a Moroccan lawyer or notary. Please note that the sworn statement must be in French.

A valid Canadian passport and notarized copies of the biographic page and the page containing your date of entry to Morocco. Notarized copies of your passport can be obtained at the Canadian Embassy in Rabat for a C$50 fee.
If divorced, provide original or certified copies of proof of dissolution of any previous marriage(s).
If former spouse is deceased, provide original or certified copy of his or her death certificate (s).
Provide an original or certified copy of your birth certificate.
A statement of criminal record (or lack thereof) issued by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) (it is mandatory to authenticate this document at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) in Ottawa)

Hello sarastubbert73.

If you need further help than some of what is already mentioned on this forum, get in touch with me via Private Message and I would be glad to help. I am a Canadian (male) flying next month to prepare my Moroccan documents (I have all my Canadian documents ready) before I have the Nikkah (marriage contract) with my fiancee.

But first, read the first post by Jess on the thread, 'Mixed Marriage Process in Morocco'. Her process is the exact same for you minus the police record which is a little different for Canadians.

Hi NotBrandonSaad

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding, I wish you all the best .
Anyways did you book appointment with Canadian embassy to Morocco for the eligibility to marry and nationality ? Could you please let me know if you will get those documents the same day or not ? Same with the police record at the ministry of Justice in Rabat, reason am only going there for a day as I’ve read mostly they finished in a day from our embassy , justice and foreign affairs for stamping.
I wish you luck.

kshatriajade

Hi again NotsoBrandonSaad

How long did it take to received your RCMP record ( lack hereof)  when you applied ?

jahfrank

"wish" and "luck" don't get you anything. You ask Allah to grant that all that is good in this life, beautiful and healthy children and a long and happy life together. Shaytan encourages you to rely on luck and wish (Haram). Sorry but anyone marrying a Moroccan cannot exclude Islam.

I haven't booked my appointment yet, primarily because of a number of reasons. Mainly I would like to get my Moroccan Medical Certificate and Police Record before I head to the Embassy. I have heard getting the Police Record document may take the most time, but I hope it doesn't. I also need to get my Marital Status certificate translated to French, while expecting to get my other documents translated to Arabic. The Canadian embassy is only open on Fridays for the three documents they issue and my fiancee won't be available to help me the week after I come as that falls on the same week as Eid, so she will be away with her family. But I hope I can book the appointment for second week and have all the other documents prepared, or else I will have to book for the third week I am there.

The document I have is different from the document the Canadian/Moroccan authorities expect. Because I live in Toronto, the in-person services are closed, so it's hard or impossible to get the exact document (which requires official stamp from the RCMP Director). What did I do? I got a Level 1 Criminal Record Check. This document takes a little over a week. I then got this document notarized by a notary because it doesn't contain the official stamp by the RCMP. I then mailed this document to Global Affairs for authentication, which takes 10 to 15 business days. Make sure you include a pre-paid return envelope so the Government can send your documents back to you, or else they won't authenticate it and return your documents back to you. I didn't know this, but still had my documents authenticated, thankfully.

Hi. If your appointment at the embassy is in the morning it usally takes 30 mins when you get into the consolide.

From there head direct to Minstry of justice and tell them your from outside of rabat they would usally do everything same day but if you leave it after 2-3pm then it will
Take an extra day.

So better to try do embassy as early as possible get a taxi as Minstry are confusing to find and finishe everyone same day.

Good luck to all.

Thank you for your kind words and please feel free to ask anything you like.

1: I used Sabir TARAOUAT in Marrekech he is the most famous and respected translator in Marrakech and approved by the government.

Dm me I Will share his contact number and email.

You might want to ask your fiancé to ring him or his office and ask for a quotation usually for multiple documents he should do it around 300-350dh per document he charges a small fee for extra copy but it’s worth getting more than one copy.

2: medical document when your in Morocco go with your fiancé to any doctor in Morocco and ask for a medical certificate for marriage. They usually charge between 150-200dh both your and your fiancé will need to do this.

3: This should be fine I donot think ladies need to revert to Islam so they might not need this document either but bring it just be to safe.

However as your fiancé to go to the family courts and ask them if this is required or if you require to revert to Islam or not.

4: if you mean a letter to the judge requesting permission for mixed marriage I think you fiancé will need to do that not yourself.

However when you have all your documents and submit it to the courts with your fiancé file also. They will then make you both do 3 interviews with different departments.

They will give you a closed letter which you are Not allowed to open you take it to the department they tell you after that interview they will give you a second letter closed to take to someone else and then after that they will give you another and the Final letter you take back to the judge. These letters are the results of the investigation and interview once again you cannot open it.

Once all this is done the judge will then either grant or decline the marriage permission.

If accepted you rake that to the adoul and your ready to get married.

Just so you no and anyone else who planning to getting married the adoul are on strike until July 7th

I hope this helps and feel free to dm me or ask any further questions you might have.

Please remember al documents must not exceed 3 months from the time you apply to the courts. If they are past 3 months then you have to start all process again.

So for example if you have all your documents and they are dated in May
But now your going to come in October, then these documents you have done and created have expired as it’s exceeded 3 months. Means you have to re apply for the documents with the new date

May documents are valid till August.

So if your coming in October try to get your documents ready for end of September so if there are any delays they are valid till December.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, Vakil.

Yes, my appointment is in the morning. I initially had an appointment on July 30, but my embassy cancelled it. But thankfully I made another appointment on August 6 in the morning. My embassy is only open on Friday mornings for notarial services. I hope I can get all the things that I need in Rabat done on the same day. I don't wait to wait until Monday to get my documents.

Do you know where the Ministry of Justice is located in Rabat? The exact address. I also need the address for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to get the Eligibility to Marry document certified.

My police record document is dated May 10 when I first got it, but it was authenticated by my Government on June 23. Do you think I have enough time with the 3 month rule? If I applied for that latter, I wouldn't get the document authenticated by my Government in time of my flight.

Where are you located in Morocco, Vakil? Is there a way I can contact you by phone or in-person when I arrive in Morocco next week?

Hi if you authenticate the document close to flight time you can convince the court when submitting the documents that thats the true date some times they are fine with it. However you still have a few days before 3
Months expire so you can still submit it on time. I don’t think it will be to much of an issue if your few days over.

You can private message me and I can give you my direct and WhatsApp number sure.

The Minstry address even with the address I always found it hard to locate but both Minstry are close to each other. And there tend to be a big waiting que but it’s doable in one day. I finished my embassy at 11am I got lost and eventually found the Minstry at 1pm and finished all by 3pm so it’s defiantly doable the embassy will give you the exact address and if your taking a taxi then it will be more easier for you. I drove and I don’t no my way around rabat so that wasted a lot of time despite me trying to locate all a day before. I don’t have the addresses saved unfortunately however as mentioned the embassy will give the address in writing well the British embassy did but if they don’t ask them to write it down so you can locate it with a taxi.

I remember one of the Minstry department were close to all the media (TV broadcasting) buildings. (As there are two building in different location but same Minstry so gets a little confusing but the one you want is next to the 2m ATV broadcasting building in the city)

Hope this helps and sorry for not being able to give the exact address.

I’m currently located in Marrakech.

Hello. my name is Mary and I am too going to Morocco in September to get married. I live in Toronto btw. Documents that I have found that we need are following and if I missed anything that you know of, please let me know.
Birth certificate( if you are born in another country, make sure its translated to English)
Police criminal record check ( if you can get it directly from RCMP that would be perfect, if not, you can obtain one from your local police station but you will have to notarize the letter as it needs to be authenticated in Ottawa)
If you were married before, you will need your divorce certificate ( if your divorce certificate doesn't have an original seal and signature from court it took place, make sure you notarize the document, if it does have original seal, no need for notarization)
  ----Both police record and divorce certificate need to be sent to Ottawa for authentication and you can do that on your own. Download the form from their website, fill out the form, gather the documents and send them to a proper address...all instructions are on their website, no need to pay anyone to do it for you.
Letter from your employer...stating the name of the company, hours of work, length of employment and position in the company ( if you are self employed, all the info about your business)
Pay stubs, going back at least three months
Thats all from Canada
     ---In Morocco there will be more documents to be obtained from different places
Canadian Embassy in Rabat will give you some of the documents
Eligibility to marry and confirmation of nationality, these two documents and notarized copies of your passport as well  some info from your fiancé will be needed as well
Police record check obtained in Rabat ( called Bulletin no. 3) and authenticated at Foreign Affairs office also in Rabat
Medical record obtained in Morocco
Letter that states what nationality are you, obtained from Imam but I am still trying to see if I will need this letter or not but its good to know about it
Pictures, they are saying 4 but make at least 16, you will need them everywhere ( sizes of pictures I need to find out from Canadian Embassy

Your fiancé can ask Adul to give him all the info for his documents
I hope I didn't forget anything but if I did...sorry
Hope this helps and good luck

Thank you for sharing this info For Canadians just one correction. All documents should be translated to Arabic not English and can be done in morocco also. Unless you need the document in English for other departments in Canada.

merka1975

Hello Vakil
Yes my friend, all documents need to be translated from English to Arabic, once people arrive to Morocco but whoever has their documents in any other language other than English, they have to be translated to English first. For example, my birth certificate is in Serbian and I had to have it translated to English first before I can do it in Arabic,  translation needs to be certified translation as well.  Thank you so much for help 😁

kshatriajade

@merka

Yes if your BC is in Serbian translate in English
Then from English to Arabic
and yes certified

merka1975

😁 thank you dear friend, done and I used that very same company 😊 they were fast and price was right ✅

According to this website: https://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/m … x?lang=eng

To obtain a certificate of non-impediment to marriage issued at the Canadian Embassy in Rabat, Canadian citizens are now required to produce a sworn statement in French before a lawyer, notary or judge in Canada. If the Canadian citizen is already in Morocco, he or she can complete this procedure before a Moroccan lawyer or notary. Please note that the sworn statement must be in French.

This seems to be the only document from the Canadian Embassy that must be in French. Though, it seems for most other nations, they get only their Eligibility to Marriage and Confirmation of Nationality at their Embassies. I think Canada has this extra step due to the shared languages of French between Morocco and Canada.

I haven't got my documents translated because translation in Canada is substantially more than in Morocco. Also, the translator has to be certified by Moroccan authorities, not Canadian authorities, or else you need to get all of your translated documents notarized in Morocco. And I have more documents due to being a man. <_<

Side note, after all the steps are done and you attain the marriage license which has been certified by the Moroccan authorities (after you and your spouse sign them in front of 2 adouls), that certified document had to be translated into English or French (if you live in Quebec) for the Canadian government to recognise your spouse/marriage for sponsorship purposes.

@Vakil

If I get a certified English document, such as a birth certificate translated by an authorised (ATAJ) translator into Arabic in Morocco, does that document automatically become certified or does that translated Arabic document need to be certified by a notary public in Morocco? From my understanding, Arabic translators are not lawyers or notaries, so I assume you still need to have Arabic documents certified?

Birth certificate that are official and original are already certified so to translate the document to Arabic does not need to certified again In morocco translator who are recognised by the gov and approved by the gov do not need to be rectified thankfully. As they will translate every last detail on the document so if the document is not already certified or recognised then it will say this on the Arabic version.

I did not have to certify my British birth certificate and i did not have to certify the Arabic version either. As for other countries i cannot advise as I do not have experience with other country certificate but document from the UK i can advise with confidence as i have  experience on this matter.

Hope this helps.

You should also make same documents in Morocco when you will come.

- criminal check in ministry of justice in Morocco.

You can send me your fiance number phone and I can explain to him all steps that you will doing.
By the way my fiance also will came in Morocco next October.
Good luck.
Best regards.

Hello
Can anyone give me an info as to where I could do a medical exam here in Toronto for wedding requirements in Morocco? Will any immigration physician do or can I do it there in Morocco?
Thanks for any reply,

adghennami

Hi,
I advice you to do it in Morocco it will be easy and don't get a lot time. It must contain the passport number.

Good kick.

angelvy032314

Thank you so much.

angelvy032314

Can I bother you with more questions? Can you give me a list of approve physician or address as to where in Morocco I could do the medical certificate? My fiancee lives in Nador and I was wondering if they have approve physician there or in Rabat?
Thank you,
Angel

NotBrandonSaad

It MUST be done in Morocco. The check up in French is called the Certificat Prenuptial. Check this link of an example of what it should look like or contain by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (also, better to be in Arabic). It’s really inexpensive because there is no actual physical check up. It’s all stating facts and telling the truth because it will be used by the family court. Just find a local ‘Generale’ doctor in the city where you are staying and plan to get wed. Search the word ‘doctor’ in Google and results will pop up, find someone who is a ‘Generale’.

You shouldn’t pay more than 200 DH. People in the past have paid 100 DH, while the cost may be more depending on the doctor or type of clinic you go to. The more established and bigger clinics will ask for more, while small doctor-owned clinics will ask the lowest rate.

P.S. Aside from the documents you obtain via the Embassy/Consulate and the Police Record (which can be done online and pick up from the nearest Police Station), the court may reject your application if you don’t have local documents from the same city you are marrying.

Hello adghennami.

Is that all the documents your fiance had to show to the Embassy to order the Capacite de Mariage and Attestation de Nationalite documents? Does it matter if the Medical Certificate is in Arabic or does it have to be in French/English? Was your fiance required to show any  other documents? For example, to prove address/residency. And finally, what language must the documents be in? Does it even matter? Since Canada has two official languages, both English and French documents should comply, right?

P.S. I know that if you haven't been married you need to proof you are single, which I have via a Single Status document that is notarized by a lawyer and signed by Ottawa (latter of which is not required because you have to get the Certificate to Non-Impediment to Marriage via the Embassy in Morocco).

angelvy032314

Thank you so much for the info! Really helps a lot.

Medical certificate must be obtain within morocco.
Any dr in morocco will provide you with one usually cost around 150-200dh for the certificate ans it’s in Arabic which means you don’t need to translate or legalise

Hi all documents that are not in Arabic beside the embassy document needs to be translated to Arabic.

You can do this within Morocco which city are you getting married in?

Brith certificate and police report and divorced certificate if orignal do not have to be notarised.

Moroccan medical report go to any doctor in morocco and they will give you this after doing some test they actually only just check your blood pressure and ask a couple of questions on your health cost around 150-200 Dh doesn’t take long at all.

Which country were you born in? And have you tired the embassy as they can assit with getting copies.

Alternatively if you have a certificate of citizenship / certificate of naturalisation you can advise the family court the current situation in morocco and see what advise they offer.
