Hello

Apologies for the long message but I appear to have exhausted all other avenues!

I wonder if anyone is able to help me. I am currently living in Ontario with my husband (who is a dual national Canadian/British) and our three small children. We came here in February this year and the children and I are currently on a temporary visitors visa (a 6 month stamp in the passport). The plan is to get our PRs via spousal sponsorship (which we have paid our fees for) however we haven’t been able to send the application forms off yet due to various COVID related delays. We really wanted to speak to someone at immigration before sending the completed forms off (for some clarification on things) however try as we might we cannot get through to anybody on the phones and the online system doesn’t appear to be working either. Realizing that we are probably not going to be able to get the PR application received by them before my current status expires we have attempted to ‘extend my stay’  for the interim however we have been unsuccessful with that also as the phone lines are so busy they are saying they are only currently speaking with people who have already submitted applications. I am now concerned that my temporary visitor permit is going to expire before we can get through to anyone to extend it.

Does anybody have any advice on what we can do in this situation? Is there anywhere we can drive to and attempt to speak to someone? The border restrictions are making things much more difficult as some people have suggested driving to Niagara and speaking to someone there but I obviously can’t cross the border as I assume I would then have to quarantine etc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks

Becki
