Update:

One of my very good friends here is dying.  He is now suffering and I am trying to help manage this situation.

For all those who emailed I promise to get your package of info sent as soon as possible.  Please dont send me snarky emails because I didn't respond immediately. I have zero patience for that.

When this is done I will be writing about all of this.

Thank you for your patience.

I will be going ahead.... once I get back from the west country on Tuesday, re-read it all and commit to what I need....apologies for not doing this sooner.  For all who showed interest, Planner has done stirling work to help make this happen - let's not waste her efforts.....

planner

Thanks honey.  I saw a need and trying to get it done. It's looking better!!!!

On the other note my friend is now on morphine, he is no longer in pain and sadly the end is near. It's heartbreaking.

My thoughts are with your friend and you!

planner

Thanks you.

My friend died yesterday at  10:45 am.   It was sooner than expected but we are grateful he is no longer in pain!

I spent most of yesterday with the family and will continue to support them this week. My  responses and work will be sporadic this week.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and understanding!

We are so sorry for your loss ❤️

Very sorry honey.  I know another young woman who just died on Sept 30 in Punta Cana, of cancer.  Its heartbreaking but as you say, the pain is gone, and now they are at peace.  Only time will allow you to recover.  I wish you can do that soon.  Remember only the good times, that is what he would want from you.  Take care.

Thank you!

A little off topic.

Health care is clearly a very important issue to expats in DR and I was wondering 'planner' if you could initiate a thread on the quality of hospital and clinical care available in this country with your long experience of living here and involvement in medical insurance? Or anyone else if you are too busy?

It then gives an opportuniy for resident expats to share their experiences of what is available in the regions and in Santo Domingo and Santiago and newcomers can become aware of the realities of healthcare in DR.

I am not much use in this respect having never passed a single hour as an in-patient in a hospital anywhere in the world since when I was born, and my experience here is limited to annual well being consultation at Cedimat and seeing a number of clinics and hospitals including public ones SD and in the regions with family and friends.

Yes, would be interested in hearing this for Las Terrenas area as well.  Hospital care, doctors and dentists that speak English as well.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

planner

Absolutely  a good idea.  Let me get through this week and i will address this. I also have recent experience of my friend  needing significant  attention from the medical community. I intend to write about it all!

For everyone - we did get enough applications to start the group. We are in process.  Its a new  group and a new process so  there will be glitches as we get started!   But its on the way!
