I will message you privately this morning.

thobec

Also moving to DR. Aiming for part time residency .Also interested in looking into the insurance .

planner

Sending you a message.

So this  particular Thread is about insurance for those  who cannot qualify for any other, I also have a group  that is more general.

planner

Good afternoon all. With great frustration I am  announcing the cancelation of this group insurance.  Unfortunately this company  seems to think its okay to change the rules when it feels like it.

We investigated  carefully and followed the rules as they were laid out for us. Now they changed. This make it next to impossible to get a group together and  it means I cannot trust them to  just keep changing the basic rules whenever they want to.

The  over 65 solution was too good to be true!  How sad!

I guess I will look for one me and my wife as soon as i get there jan 7th

planner

Yes the group I have for under age 65 continues as normal.  And there are other options as well, not just my particular group.  ;)

So disappointed!  If something else comes up please let me know.  Thanks very much for all the help.

planner

There are a few disappointed people.  It's out of my ability to fix this!

That's too bad but we ALL appreciate the hard work and time you've put into this. As mentioned, perhaps some day there'll be a company that will come along and will meet the over 65 needs....

planner

We can hope honey!

Well, I just found this group. It is almost impossible to get any meaningful information on international medical/ health insurance for expats from the web. You frequently have misdirection from well meaning expats that provide information which is often wrong or innacurate. If you go to your local domestic broker, they can also give you misdirection because they don't know much about the subject, which they readily admit. I recently visited choosingmexico. com for retirees there, and they have a partner expat insurance website that I visited based in Utah where they display 9 insurer logos they represent. 7 of 9 of these products are reject fails in my opinion, worse the broker owner of that site had no idea why any would fail. These rejects fail for junk credit rating of underwriter, inability to sue, bad domicile, no regulator, bad policy wording, and many of those 7 fail for mulitiple of these reasons.

[moderated: no self-promotion please]

There are about 30 expat insurers in the world and most of them don't cover over 65 with premiums that you could say were inexpensive, but I really do know the best combinations of good and least expensive. I invite anybody to start a conversation with me...

Can someone clarify the age 65 problem? Will you be dropped when you turn 65, or is it very hard to open a policy if you are 65 and older?

@huddleston1
the 2nd option
planner
Its hard to get a policy after age 65.  Above is info on who can help. Comment #91

Once you have a policy it stays long after age 65. Premiums will go up and as long as you pay you will have coverage. Each policy has its own specific rules.

SENASA might be an option for some

WW Positive recent news for those looking at this scheme......

Government plans to increase coverage from one to two million pesos for SeNaSa affiliates in catastrophic illnesses

President Luis Abinader, accompanied by Vice President Raquel Peña, ordered this Thursday to increase the coverage of catastrophic medical expenses from one to two million pesos for each of the events covered in the Basic Health Plan (PBS) .

This will benefit more than seven million affiliates, in their respective schemes in the Family Health Insurance (SFS), of the Dominican Social Security System.

President Luis Abinader said that health is and will always be the most important part of our lives, so "since we came to the Government we knew that this sector was a priority and that we had to act urgently, but knowing how to transform the model forever ”, emphasized the president during a ceremony held at the National Palace.

The head of state recalled that at the end of 2020 the Government managed to enroll two million more people in SeNaSa , and that now, the beneficiaries amount to seven million Dominicans throughout the country.

Hi! This is my first post on this site, so don't know who is getting this or what your expertise might be, but my wife (67) and I (79) are considering moving full time to DR in the Punta Cana area. Is it true that there is no medical insurance available, except International like Cigna, for people over 65?

Medical care is, at our age, one of our major concerns - even though we are both in excellent health now. Is good health care available in Punta Cana?

Looking forward to connecting with someone who has good advice and experience to share.

Thank you!   Jim Kellison

There is no local plan over age 65. You will need to find an international plan.

Hello, I was listening to a  husband and wife on YouTube,  that said that you are not able to get a plan at the age of 60. Unless you file for a plan at 59 you are out of luck.

Does anyone here have an international plan?  I just started exploring the possibility of moving abroad for a few months until we decide where to settle. DR is a possibilty. We are U.S. citizens, thinking maybe insurance for every day health care needs (is healthcare expensive for minor needs) and any emergency such as hospitalization. Knowing that you have the flexibility to come to the states for any major, catastrophic illness God forbid. So much to take into consideration. Any input will be very helpful.

Thank you.

planner

Zoey sadly that utuber is not  in the know. You can apply with  most plans up to age  65.  If you are  only coming for a few months get travel insurance. Once you decide you want to live here, I can help you.

Pre existing conditions will NOT be covered.  And you have to pay for your own medical  checkup.  I will send private messages.

Good Evening

I am planning to move to DR when I am 67

Can I apply for DR health Insurance

planner

If you apply before age 65 you have choice. After that there is only one company and it requires an on country medical review.
