Hi Everyone,
I am 21 yrs and I live in Kosovo(a country in the EU but not a member of the EU union) and I have an uncle who lives in the Netherlands. I was thinking if it was possible to gain a residence permit through verification against EU law but I am not sure. My uncle has a residence permit in the Netherlands but he is not a national of the Netherlands he is a national of Germany. I am not sure about the documents to submit either more specifically on the point "Evidence showing that you received material support from your sponsor in your country of origin" I am also not sure whether I need to pass the basic civic language test. I hope someone has any experience or any relevant information on this and i would really appreacite this.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

Short answer - no.  You're not a direct family member and not dependent on him.

You could visit the Netherlands for a short stay with your Uncles sponsorship, but then have to leave after 90 days.

You haven't told us what you do, what your qualifications are, or if you speak any Dutch at all.  That said, there is nothing stopping you from applying for a work visa in your own right.  There are many different work permits available, this link will take you to the Dutch Government website that lists the details for all of them.  There is also the detail of applying for a short visit permit.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot, Cynic for the quick reply I am a student in my hometown.... I was thinking that this point "You are a family member, other than a partner, parent, grandparent, child or grandchild, of a Union citizen" of the verification against EU law would be eligible for me. When I completed this form"https://www.netherlandsworldwide.nl/travel/visas-for-the-netherlands/long-stay-visa-mvv" it suggested that it is possible to receive a residence permit but its not all that clear anyway.

Hi again.

It's always best to speak to the IND directly for these questions.  The fact your uncle is a German national may make it easier - the link I gave you includes a link to the IND contact information - speak to them and perhaps there are other options open to you.

To add, they do qualify the statement you have referred to by adding to it that you require to be:

IND wrote:

You are financially dependent on the Union citizen. You receive money from your family member on a regular basis (e.g. every month). You need that money to meet your basic needs (e.g. rent, food and drink).
You were already living together with the Union citizen in your country of origin.
You require care from the Union citizen because of serious health problems.

So not always as clear and easy as we hope; but still phone them and ask, you never know.
