The health ministry announced 2,546 new cases of Covid-19 and three deaths on Tuesday.

The deaths were two women aged 85 and 86 who passed away at Paphos and Famagusta hospitals respectively, and a man aged 88, who passed away at Limassol hospital.

This brings the total death toll to 716, of whom 448 were men and 268 women.

There are 223 people being treated for coronavirus in hospitals, 71 of whom are in serious condition. Of the 71 patients, 27 are intubated, five are in the ICU without a ventilator and 39 in a High Dependency Unit.

Of all patients, 73.43 per cent are not vaccinated against Covid.

Twenty-five post-Covid patients who are no longer infectious are still intubated in the ICU.

A total of 99,308 PCR and rapid tests were carried out on Tuesday, giving a positivity rate of 2.56 per cent.

Of the 99,308 tests, 6,465 were PCR and 92,843 rapid tests.

The majority, 1,186 of the 2,546 cases, came from 41,718 rapid tests performed at private labs and pharmacies, with 830 more found out of 51,125 tests performed at health ministry testing sites.

A total of 341 cases came from 3,175 samples taken through private initiative, while 543 samples taken through contacts of already confirmed cases turned up 105 positives.

Nineteen cases were found among 324 samples processed by hospital labs while 192 samples taken through GP referrals yielded no positives.

In addition, 2,286 samples were taken at airports with 70 positives.

The total number of positives to date is 241,319.

Meanwhile, the north reported two deaths and 639 new cases, found from 22,025 tests performed in the last 24 hours.

The ‘health ministry’ reported that 311 cases were detected in Nicosia, 114 in Kyrenia, 86 in Famagusta, 68 In Morphou, 31 in Trikomo and 29 in Lefka.

So far, the north has reported 51,677 cases and 163 deaths.

Eight deaths from coronavirus, three of them from previous days, and 2,449 new infections were reported on Wednesday out of 92,276 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 2.71 per cent.

The ministry said there were 224 people in hospital with the virus of whom 75 are in serious condition, 34 of them are intubated and four in the ICU but not on the ventilator. Of those hospitalized, 75 per cent do not have a vaccination history. There are also 19 post Covid patients intubated in ICUs.

The eight deaths reported on Wednesday bring the total since the start of the pandemic to 724. The average age is 76.2

Three deaths are from previous days and concern a man aged 72 who died in the ICU of Nicosia hospital on January 23 and two women aged 88 and 91 who died at Limassol Hospital on January 25.

The ministry also announced the death of four women and one man which occurred on Wednesday.

The man, aged 86, died at Famagusta General Hospital as did a woman aged 81. An 83-year-old woman died at Larnaca Hospital while a woman aged 85 died at Nicosia General Hospital. The eighth death was of a woman aged 64 who died in the ICU of Nicosia General Hospital.

Of the 2449 new infections announced on Wednesday, 64 were from 411 tests from contact tracing, 21 from 921 tests on arriving passengers at Larnaca and Paphos airports, and 360 from 3343 private initiative tests.

Another 45 infections were recorded from 279 tests at hospital labs, 1158 from 47,918 rapid tests at private labs and pharmacies and 837 from 39,168 rapid tests from the health ministry’s programme. And 14 infections were reported from 234 tests following referrals from personal doctors and checks on special groups through public health centres.

From the health ministry’s rapid test programme, 61 cases were reported in care homes and 51 in secondary schools. In addition, there were 19 cases from 1297 tests from the newly-introduced test to stay programme.

The health ministry announced that two people had died of Covid-19 and that 2,587 had tested positive from 110,201 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 2.35 per cent.

The deaths concerned two men aged 93 and 74, raising the total number of deaths attributed to Covid-19 to 726, with an average age of 76.2.


There are 208 people in hospitals of whom 68 are in serious condition. Of these, 30 are intubated.

The ministry said that the percentage of unvaccinated patients was 76.4 per cent.

The 110,201 tests were comprised of 5,748 PCR tests and 104,453 rapid tests, which picked up the 2,587 infections at a rate of 2.35 per cent.

The PCR tests picked up 59 infections from 564 contact tracing tests, 47 from 2,189 airport tests, 302 from 2,482 taken privately and 36 from 356 hospital tests.

The 49,512 rapid tests taken privately picked up 1,371 infections, while the government’s screening programme carried out 54,941 rapid tests and identified a further 769 infections.

The test to stay programme identified 30 positives from its 3,357 checks.

The north announced 579 Covid-19 infections on Friday following 18,726, raising the total reported cases to 53,027. Deaths attributed to Covid-19 remain at 167.

Four people died from Covid on Saturday while 2,184 new cases were recorded, the ministry of health said.

The four deaths all refer to men, two aged 92, one aged 83 and one aged 70 who died in hospital on Friday and Saturday.


The new deaths bring to 730 the total since the start of the pandemic. Of these 456 were men and 274 women.

Meanwhile there are 203 patients being treated with Covid in hospitals, 68 of whom are in a serious condition.

From the 68, some 27 are intubated, five are in intensive care but not on a ventilator and 36 are in a high dependency unit.

Of all people in hospital 74.39 per cent have no history of vaccination.

Nineteen post-Covid patients also remain in a serious condition in hospital.

A total of 83,766 tests were taken on Saturday, both PCR and rapid, meaning the new cases were a positivity rate of 2.61 per cent.

Of the tests 5,970 were PCR and 77,796 rapid tests.

Thirty one positives were found among 156 samples of contacts of known cases, while 59 were found from 3,032 tests carried out at the airports.

A further 308 were found among 2,538 tests carried out through private initiative while 13 were found from 224 samples at labs in state hospitals.

Among rapid tests 1,052 positives were found from the 43,782 tests carried out at private pharmacies and labs and 721 from the 34,014 taken at ministry of health rapid test sites

Two deaths from the coronavirus and 3, 396 new cases were announced on Monday out of 137,680 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 2.47 per cent.

The deaths were of a man aged 86, who died at Famagusta general hospital and a woman aged 77 who died at the ICU of the Nicosia general hospital. Both died on Monday.

The ministry added there are 204 patients in hospital with the virus of whom 65 are in serious condition. Of them, 31 are intubated, four are treated in the ICU but not on a ventilator and 30 in the high dependency unit.

The new cases emerged from 130,655 rapid tests and 7,025 PCR tests.

Most, 1,853, were detected after 68,222 rapid tests carried out at private pharmacies and labs while another 1,096 cases were detected from 62,433 samples taken at the health ministry’s rapid testing sites.

Some 307 cases were detected from 2,275 tests taken following a private initiative, 54 cases were detected from 3,911 tests at the airports, 42 after 332 tests at the labs of state hospitals and 38 from 247 tests for contact tracing purposes.

Six more cases were detected after 258 tests carried out after a doctor’s referral.

Of the new cases detected at the health ministry’s testing sites, 49 concerned nursing homes, including 26 in Limassol, the ministry’s announcement showed.

Since the pandemic outbreak, the government-controlled areas recorded 256,746 coronavirus cases, of whom 733 died, the majority of whom, 458, were men.

In the north, two deaths and 508 new cases were recorded after 21,978 tests on Monday.

The health ministry announced one death attributed to Covid-19 and 3,038 new infections on Tuesday, with a positivity rate of 2.67 per cent.

The death was that of a 77-year-old woman, raising total Covid-19 deaths announced by the ministry to 734.

A total of 458 men have died from Covid and 276 women since the start of the pandemic.

The ministry added that there are 211 Covid-19 patients in hospital, of whom 60 are in serious condition. Of those, 29 are intubated.

Of all people in hospital, 76.78 per cent have no history of vaccination.

Tuesday saw 113,862 Covid-19 tests carried out, of which 6,146 were PCR tests and 107,716 rapid tests.

The PCR tests identified the following positives: 107 from 557 contact tracing tests, 64 from 2,694 airport tests, 326 from 2,380 tests taken privately and 40 from 344 hospital tests.

The 45,908 rapid tests taken privately uncovered 1,512 positives.

The state’s screening programme accounted for 61,808 rapid tests and identified 984 positives.

There were 21 infections reported at care homes.

The north reported two Covid-19 deaths and 601 infections. That raises the total number of deaths attributed to Covid-19 in the north to 174, while their infections now tally 55,914

The deaths were of two men, both aged 74, who died at Limassol and Nicosia hospitals.

This brings the total death toll to 736, of whom 460 were men and 276 women.

There are 235 people being treated for coronavirus in hospitals, 67 of whom are in serious condition. Of the 67 patients, 28 are intubated, six are in the ICU without a ventilator and 33 in a High Dependency Unit.

Of all virus patients, 74.9 per cent are not vaccinated against Covid.

Twenty post-Covid patients who are no longer infectious are still intubated in the ICU.

A total of 100,762 PCR and rapid antigen tests were carried out on Tuesday, giving a positivity rate of 3.06 per cent.

Of the 100,762 tests, 5,435 were PCR and 95,327 rapid tests.

The majority, 1,492 of the 3,083 cases, came from 49,569 rapid tests performed at private labs and pharmacies, with 1,076 more found out of 45,758 tests performed at health ministry testing sites.

A total of 327 cases came from 2,299 samples taken through private initiative, while 659 samples taken through contacts of already confirmed cases turned up 105 positives.

Thirty-nine cases were found among 307 samples processed by hospital labs while 188 samples taken through GP referrals yielded three positives.

In addition, 1,982 samples were taken at airports with 41 positives.

The total number of positives to date is 262,867.

Health authorities announced no fatalities from Covid-19 on Thursday, while testing detected 3,078 new positives.

The death toll since March 2020 remains at 736.

In hospitals, 222 people were being treated for Covid-19, of whom 69 were said to be in a serious condition.

Of the 69, 30 are intubated, five in ICU but not on a ventilator, and 34 in high-dependency units.
In addition, 19 post-Covid patients continued to be intubated in ICU.

The health ministry reported that 74.78 per cent of those in hospital did not have a vaccination record.
Thursday’s 3,078 positives came from a total of 115,470 tests – of which 5,552 done with PCR – representing a positivity rate of 2.67 per cent.

A breakdown of the latest positives: 34 from 417 samples via contact tracing; 41 from 2,625 samples taken at the airports; 344 from 2,115 samples taken by private initiative; 27 from 364 samples processed by laboratories at the general hospitals; 1,633 from 47,977 samples processed by private clinical labs and pharmacies; 998 from 61,941 samples as part of the government’s free screening programme; and one from 30 samples via doctors’ referrals.

The majority, 1,528 of the 2,907 cases, came from 50,062 rapid tests performed at private labs and pharmacies, with 910 more found out of 60,968 tests performed at health ministry testing sites.

A total of 337 cases came from 2,487 samples taken through private initiative, while 496 samples taken through contacts of already confirmed cases turned up 54 positives.

Forty-one cases were found among 408 samples processed by hospital labs while 147 samples taken through GP referrals yielded three positives.

In addition, 2,477 samples were taken at airports with 34 positives.

The death concerned a woman aged 94 taking the total over the past two years to 741.

The deaths concerned three men aged 90, 89 and 82 and a woman aged 88. The 90-year-old died on Saturday. Total deaths since March 2020 stand at 745 with an average age of 76.

The health ministry on Monday announced four more coronavirus deaths, including two people in their 40s, as 3,374 new infections were recorded.

The deaths concerned a man, aged 40 and a woman aged 89 who died on Sunday, and a woman aged 47 and a man aged 79 who died on Monday, the ministry said.

There are 233 in hospital with the virus of whom 63 are in serious condition. Of them, 29 are intubated, three are in the ICU without a ventilator and 31 are treated in the high dependency unit.

Another 19 post-Covid patients continue to be intubated in ICUs.

According to the announcement, the new cases were detected from 139,885 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 2.41 per cent.

Of them, 132,415 concerned rapid tests, from where 2,956 positives were traced. The remaining 418 cases were detected from 7,470 PCR samples.

Most cases were detected following a private initiative test with 1,940 detected after 67,891 rapid tests, and 276 from PCR tests.

Another 1,016 cases were recorded after 64,524 rapid tests carried out through the health ministry’s programmes. These included 27 new cases in nursing homes and 356 cases in primary, secondary and special schools.

Meanwhile, 32 people tested positive after 225 PCR tests carried out for contact tracing purposes and 110 who tested positive after 1,515 rapid tests.

The north announced five deaths and 432 new cases after 16,601 tests.

The health ministry announced seven deaths and 2,885 new cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday.

All seven deaths were men, aged 93, 82, 77, 76, 71, 63, and 58, bringing the total death toll to 756.

There are 206 people being treated for coronavirus in hospitals, 48 of whom are in serious condition. Of the 48 patients, 19 are intubated, three are in the ICU without a ventilator and 26 in a High Dependency Unit.

Of all patients, 69.91 per cent are not vaccinated against Covid.

Twenty six post-Covid patients who are no longer infectious are still intubated in the ICU.

A total of 111,932 PCR and rapid tests were carried out, giving a positivity rate of 2.58 per cent.

Of these tests, 105,687 were rapid tests, with 2,400 cases found. The remaining 6,245 tests were PCR with 485 positives.

Most cases were detected through private initiative, with 1,440 found among 43,504 rapid tests, and 326 from 2,192 PCR tests.

Another 960 cases were recorded after 62,183 rapid tests carried out through the health ministry’s programmes. These included 22 new cases in nursing homes and 215 cases in schools.

Meanwhile, 60 people tested positive after 462 PCR tests carried out for contact tracing purposes and 93 who tested positive after 1,336 rapid tests.

The total number of cases detected so far is 277,864.

Five deaths attributed to Covid-19 and 2,779 new infections were announced on Wednesday out of 95,572 PCR and rapid tests.

The deaths were four men, aged 65, 85, 88 and 90. A woman, aged 94, also died – raising the total deaths attributed to the virus to 761.

There are 199 people in hospital with the virus of whom 49 are in serious condition. The health ministry said patients in hospital without a vaccination history stands at 65.33 per cent.

Wednesday’s 95,572 tests identified the 2,779 infections, at a positivity rate of 2.91 per cent.

The 5,990 PCR tests yielded 484 positives, a positivity rate of 8.08 per cent.

The 89,582 rapid tests identified 2,295 positives at a rate of 2,56 per cent.

A total of 11,893 tests at secondary schools picked up 80 positives, while the test-to-stay programme identified 76 positives out of 6,620 tests.

The health ministry’s rapid test programme carried out 45,185 such checks and picked up 992 positives.

Notably, care homes carried out 1,338 rapid tests and found 19 positives.

Health authorities on Thursday announced one more death from Covid-19, while nationwide testing detected 2,815 new positives.

The latest fatality was a woman aged 78 who passed away on Wednesday. That brings the death toll since March 2020 to 762.

In hospitals, 198 people were being treated for Covid-19. Fourt-seven patients were said to be in a serious condition; of these four were in ICU but not on a ventilator, 14 intubated, and 29 in high-dependency units.

In addition, 28 post-Covid patients continued to be intubated.

The health ministry reported that 64.15 per cent of those in hospital had no record of vaccination.

The day’s 2,815 positives came from 113,030 tests, giving a positivity rate of 2.49 per cent.

Notably, in nursing homes 752 tests tracked 17 positives. And the test-to-stay detected 60 positives from 6,448 rapid tests.

The health ministry released the results in a different format. It stopped citing the number of patients in each hospital, instead providing only the overall number. And it began referencing separately the respective positivity rates obtained from private initiative tests and those used for SafePass purposes as these “carry different weight.”

The ministry also reiterated that the numbers cited in the daily bulletins are “indicative” and may be subject to revision in the national surveillance report published every other Friday.

A total of 776 people died from coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, the health ministry said on Friday in a new update of data submitted to the epidemiological monitoring unit.

The additional 14 deaths attributed to Covid-19 occurred from January 9, 2021, to February 6, 2022.

In an announcement, the ministry said after recording and validating data submitted to the unit, the total number of deaths from Covid-19 until February 10, 2022, are 776 and not 762 as stated in Thursday’s announcement.

Of these, 486 (62.6 per cent) concern men and 290 (37.4 per cent) women. The average age is 76.3

The health ministry announced that four people had died of Covid-19 and that 2,485 had tested positive from 115,325 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 2.15 per cent.

The deaths concerned two men aged 91 and 61 and two women aged 90 and 74. Two of the patients died on Wednesday. The total deaths in two years stands at 780.

There are 184 people in hospitals of whom 43 are in serious condition. Of these, 8 are intubated.

The ministry said that the percentage of unvaccinated patients was 66 per cent.

Of the 115,325 tests carried out, 5,420 were PCR which turned up 316 positives with a positivity rate of 5.83 per cent.

There were 109,905 rapid tests, detecting 2,169 positives with a positivity rate of 1.97 per cent.

A total of 169 positives turned up through contact tracing

In primary schools there were 21,037 tests turning up 115 positives or 0.55 per cent positivity rate.

Secondary schools saw 11,738 tests detecting 95 positives, with a positivity rate of 0.81 per cent.

Test-to-Stay had 6,273 samples taken, coming up with 73 positives.

Out of 936 tests in nursing homes, 18 positives were found, a positivity rate of 1.92 per cent.

In closed structures: 1,678 tests were done finding six positives.

The bulk of positives were found through the ministry’s free testing programme and testing on private initiative.

Although the daily bulletin used to provide numbers as to how many people were found positive at the airports through PCR tests, this figure is no longer listed separately, just a total for PCR based on ‘tracking’ or ‘private initiative

The health ministry announced that no people had died of Covid-19 on Sunday and that 2,047 had tested positive from 81,650 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 2.51 per cent.

There are 182 people in hospitals of whom 41 are in serious condition. Of these, 11 are intubated and 30 are in the high dependency unit. No patients are in the ICU.

The ministry said that the percentage of unvaccinated patients was 69.79 per cent. There are also 30 post Covid patients intubated in ICUs.

The total number of deaths stands at 785 since the onset of the pandemic.

Of the 2,047 new infections announced on Sunday, 222 were from 6,740 PCR tests, 1,825 from 74,910 rapid tests. Through contact tracing, there were 27 positive cases out of 307 PCR tests and 107 infections out of 1,117 rapid tests carried.

Through private initiative, 114 positive cases were found from 1,012 PCR tests and 768 positive cases from a total of 28,360 rapid tests.

As part of the health ministry programs, 1,057 positive cases came from 46,550 rapid tests carried out and 927 cases from 43,698 tests carried out at rapid test sites.

A total of 21 cases were found in care homes out of 306 tests carried out and a further two cases out of 1,429 tests carried out in closed units.

The ministry said there are 177 people in hospital with the virus of whom 40 are in serious condition, including 12 who are intubated.

Of those, 69.5 per cent are unvaccinated, the announcement said.

It added that 31 patients who stopped being infectious continue to be intubated in ICUs due to coronavirus.

According to the data announced by the ministry, 8,617 PCR tests were carried out on Monday, of which 335 cases were detected.

The remaining 125,798 tests concerned rapid antigen testing, during which 2,595 infections were reported.

The highest number of tests, 63,773 was carried out in private labs and pharmacies where 1,737 cases were detected, followed by 62,025 tests at the health ministry’s free rapid testing sites where 858 cases were recorded.

Another 1,952 PCR tests were carried out following a private initiative, during which 219 people tested positive.

For contact tracing purposes, 144 PCR tests were carried out and nine cases were detected, while 79 cases were traced after 979 rapid tests.

The new cases included 13 found after 1,176 rapid tests in care homes.

The ministry reiterated that data released are indicative and may be updated as part of the bimonthly national report prepared by the ministry’s epidemiological team.

The northern part of the island recorded 343 coronavirus cases from 25,038 tests.

The health ministry announced seven deaths and 2,549 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday.

The deaths were of three men aged 59, 63 and 87 and four women aged 50, 85, 92 and 99, bringing the total death toll to 798.

There are 175 people being treated for coronavirus in hospitals, 43 of whom are in serious condition. Of the 43 patients, 13 are intubated, one is in the ICU without a ventilator and 29 in a High Dependency Unit.

Of all patients, 70.86 per cent are not vaccinated against Covid.

Thirty post-Covid patients who are no longer infectious are still intubated in the ICU.

A total of 97,679 PCR and rapid tests were carried out on Wednesday, giving a positivity rate of 2.61 per cent.

Of the 97,679 tests, 91,022 were rapid tests, with 2,175 cases found. The remaining 6,657 tests were PCR with 374 positives.

Most cases were detected through private initiative, with 1,230 detected from 43,719 rapid tests, and 255 from 1,952 PCR tests.

Another 945 cases were recorded after 47,303 rapid tests carried out through the health ministry’s testing programmes. These included 17 cases in nursing homes, two in closed structures, and 180 cases in primary and secondary schools.

Meanwhile, 67 people tested positive after 508 PCR tests carried out for contact tracing purposes and 88 who tested positive after 1,276 rapid tests.

The total number of cases detected so far is 298,235.

Authorities on Thursday announced four more deaths attributed to Covid-19, while testing tracked 2,200 new positives.

The latest fatalities are: a woman aged 67, who passed away on Wednesday; and three men – aged 63, 89 and 93 – who expired on Thursday.

The Covid death toll since March 2020 stands at 802.

Meanwhile 168 patients were being treated in hospitals, of whom 43 were in a serious condition. Of those in a serious condition, 12 were intubated and 31 in high-dependency units.

In addition, 29 post-Covid patients continued to be intubated in ICU.

The health ministry reported that 66.08 per cent of those in hospital did not have a record of vaccination.

Thursday’s 2,200 positives came from 99,502 tests, for a positivity rate of 2.21 per cent.

Contact tracing found 22 positives from 255 samples; private testing yielded 208 positives from 1,880 samples; tests through the health ministry’s programmes tracked 732 positives; 86 positives from 22,686 samples from schools; and 34 positives from 3,035 samples from the Test-to-Stay scheme.

Notably, 12 positives came up from 1,049 tests at nursing homes.

In the north, a total of 13,903 tests over the past 24 hours came up with 506 positives. The cumulative total of positives in the north is 63,576.

The health ministry on Friday announced five deaths attributed to Covid-19 and 2,304 infections, while 170 people were hospitalised with the virus.

The five deaths were: three women aged 51, 79 and 87 and two men aged 72 and 92.

As of Friday night there are 170 patients hospitalised with Covid-19 of whom 41 are in serious condition. Of the 41, there are 13 who are intubated. The ministry said that of those in hospital overall, 68.24 per cent are unvaccinated.

There are also 28 post-Covid-19 (no longer infectious) patients receiving treatment.

The infections were identified following 110,891 tests, yielding a positivity rate of 2.08 per cent.

Friday’s tests consisted of 6,938 PCR tests, which identified 334 positives at a rate of 4.81 per cent, and 103,953 rapid tests, which uncovered 1,970 positives at a rate of 1.9 per cent.

Contact tracing identified 53 positives from 620 tests, a rate of 8.55 per cent.

Primary schools saw 11,563 tests and 67 positives, a rate of 0.58 per cent.

There were 114 positives at care homes, following 20,401 tests.

The health ministry on Tuesday announced five deaths and 2,322 new coronavirus infections.

The new cases were from 104,793 tests, giving a positivity rate of 2.22 per cent.

The five deaths concern one man and four women aged between 46 and 84 and bring the total of deaths from Covid to 830.

There are 157 coronavirus patients in state hospitals, 43 of them in serious condition of which 11 are intubated.

Of the hospitalised coronavirus cases, 70.07 per cent are not vaccinated.

Another 25 post-Covid patients continued to be on the ventilator in the ICU of state hospitals, the ministry added.

Three of the five deaths announced on Tuesday occurred on Monday. They concern a man aged 71 and two women aged 84 and 77. Another two women died on Tuesday, one aged 46 and the second aged 74.

Of the 104,793 tests carried out on Tuesday, 7,585 were PCR tests and 97,208 rapid tests. The 2,322 new infections detected bring the total since the start of the pandemic to 311,239.

The ministry said that following contact tracing 52 cases were detected from 549 PCR tests and 82 from 842 rapid tests. There were another 1,911 PCR tests from private initiative leading to 258 new cases and 41,397 rapid tests leading to 1,122 positive cases.

The health ministry’s programme accounted for 55,811 rapid tests that led to the detection of 819 positive tests. Of these 465 were from rapid test sites (16,295 tests).

Primary education reported 119 positive cases after 20,424 tests, secondary education 91 infections from 11,676 tests and test-to-stay 49 cases from 4,646 tests.

The health ministry announced three deaths attributed to Covid-19 and a further 2,167 infections on Wednesday night, while 161 patients are hospitalised with the virus.

The deaths were of three men aged 74, 77 and 81 – raising the total deaths attributed to Covid-19 to 833.

Of those in hospital, 36 are in serious condition of whom 13 are intubated. Of the 161 Covid-19 patients overall, the ministry said that 64.38 per cent are unvaccinated.

There are 23 post-Covid patients (no longer infectious) receiving treatment.

Wednesday’s 2,167 infections were uncovered through 96,880 tests at a rate of 2.24 per cent. Total recorded infections now total 313,406.

PCR tests accounted for 6,183 and identified 319 positives, at a positivity rate of 5.16 per cent while rapid tests totalled 90,697 and identified 1,848 positives at a rate of 2.04 per cent.

There were 12,063 tests carried out at secondary schools which resulted in 78 positive results, a positivity rate of 0.65 per cent while the test-to-stay programme saw 4,534 tests and 55 positives – a rate of 1.21 per cent.

Care homes accounted for 11 positives following the 1,168 tests which were carried out, a rate of 0.94 per cent.

The north, meanwhile, reported one Covid-19 death and 518 infections – following 13,892 tests – on Wednesday. Total infections in the north now total 66,150 while deaths with the final cause attributed to Covid-19 are now at 189.

The health ministry on Friday announced 1,826 new coronavirus infections which resulted from 113,253 tests, a positivity rate of 1.61 per cent.

Earlier the health ministry had announced seven additional coronavirus related deaths, spanning from Wednesday to Friday, which raised the total number of Covid fatalities to 848.

The latest deaths were four men, two of whom, aged 75 and 88 died on Thursday, another aged 54 who had died on Wednesday and an 88-year-old man who died on Friday, as well as three women. Two of the women, aged 78 and 94, died on Friday and another 92-year-old woman died on Thursday from the virus, the ministry reported.

According to the daily briefing, there were 155 people with the virus in state hospitals, of whom 34 were in serious condition, including 13 who were intubated. Some 60 per cent are unvaccinated.

Another 24 patients who stopped being infected were still intubated due to the virus in ICUs, it added.

According to the ministry, some 5.6 per cent of the tests were PCR and the rest were rapid tests.

Of the 6.317 PCR tests, 266 cases were detected, while a total of 1,560 infections were traced from 106.936 rapid antigen tests.

Most cases, 949, were detected after 48,604 rapid tests carried out privately, while another 611 were detected from 58,332 tests as part of the health ministry’s free testing programmes, including testing at schools and nursing homes.

A total of 176 infections were detected after 1,604 PCR tests, while another 51 were detected after 688 rapid tests and 38 after 385 PCR tests carried out for contact tracing purposes, the announcement added.

The new cases included 355 infections in schools and 19 cases in nursing homes.

Authorities in the northern part of the island announced 400 new coronavirus cases on Friday, after 17,694 tests, raising the total of cases detected to 67,072 since the pandemic outbreak. In total, 190 people died from the virus in the north.

The health ministry announced that two people had died of Covid-19 and that 1,387 had tested positive from 93,207 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 1.49 per cent.

The deaths concerned a 91-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman. The total number of deaths stands at 854 since the onset of the pandemic.

There are 148 people in hospitals of whom 36 are in serious condition. Of these, 13 are intubated and 22 are in the high dependency unit.

The ministry said that the percentage of unvaccinated patients was 61.49 per cent. There are also 24 post-Covid patients intubated in ICUs.

Of the 93,207 new infections announced on Sunday, 165 were from 8,075 PCR tests, 1,222 from 85,132 rapid tests. Through contact tracing, there were 66 infections found from 1,003 rapid tests.

Through private initiative, there were 71 positive cases out of 995 PCR tests and 505 infections out of 35,288 rapid tests carried out.

As part of the health ministry programs, 717 positive cases came from 49,844 rapid tests carried out and 651 cases from 46,811 tests carried out at rapid test sites.

There were 373 cases announced in the north, from 22,759 tests carried out.

The health ministry announced two Covid-19 deaths and 2,356 infections on Monday night as 150 Covid-19 patients are hospitalised.

The deaths were of a man, aged 67, and a woman, aged 80. Their deaths raise the total fatalities attributed to Covid-19 to 856.

At the hospitals, 37 Covid-19 patients are in serious condition – 14 of whom are intubated – while 60 per cent of the overall 150 patients are unvaccinated, the ministry said.

Monday’s 2,356 infections were identified following 128,114 tests, a positivity rate of 1.84 per cent. Total infections recorded now total 322,516.

PCR tests accounted for 9,513 Covid-19 tests, identifying 358 positives at a rate of 3.76 per cent. Rapid tests made up the vast majority at 118,601 such checks, picking up 1,998 positives at a rate of 1.68 per cent.

Contact tracing carried out PCR 380 tests, identifying 45. The unit’s 727 rapid tests picked up 50 positives.

The health ministry’s testing programme carried out 58,822 such checks and identified 651 infections.

As part of the programme, test units for eligible groups saw 17,229 tests and 379 positives while primary schools accounted for 20,170 tests and 72 positives. Secondary schools saw 11,841 tests and 57 positives.

Notably, care homes recorded 21 infections from the 1,477 Covid-19 tests, a positivity rate of 1.42 per cent.

The health ministry announced one death and 1,584 new cases of Covid-19 on Monday.

The new death was of a 67-year-old man, bringing the total death toll to 878.

There are 129 people being treated for coronavirus in hospitals, 27 of whom are in serious condition. Of the 27 patients, 11 are intubated, and 16 in a High Dependency Unit.

Of all patients, 55.82 per cent are not vaccinated against Covid.

Twenty-one post-Covid patients who are no longer infectious are still intubated in the ICU.

A total of 46,066 PCR and rapid antigen tests were carried out on Monday, giving a positivity rate of 3.44 per cent.

Of the 46,066 tests, 43,310 were rapid tests, with 1,482 cases found. The remaining 2,756 tests were PCR with 102 positives.

Most cases were detected through private initiative, with 925 detected from 28,105 rapid tests, and 59 from 859 PCR tests.

Another 557 cases were recorded after 15,205 rapid tests carried out through the health ministry’s testing programmes.

Meanwhile, 70 people tested positive after 834 rapid tests carried out for contact tracing purposes.

The total number of cases detected so far is 334,822.
